Just ordered the body from Scott at FRP Manx.

We talked about the Pink some more and he said it really wasnt a hot pink, not a bright color pink - which I dont want Sad

We decided to fall back on the original idea and go with the Green. So it should look something like this:

Anyway, he said he was slow and will probably have it done mid next week. Which means I will be heading to San Diego to pick it up next week some time - shipping was close to $700.

More to come when it gets in my garage

That would be awesome, but unfortunately the body wont be ready until next week at the earliest. I haven't heard back from Scott, but he should be letting me know early next week - It all depended on whether he could get the color in quick enough.

Blaine

BTW, I really liked the Burgundy as well, almost went that route.

I got the call yesterday that the body is ready for pickup. Scott said the green came out great and is very 'bright' - he said it looks amazing.

Ill be heading out to San Diego next Friday to pick it up Twisted Evil

I also ordered the seats for the car this week. Chirco did me right and price matched some of the online retailers for the Empi race-trim lowback seats (with headrests) - I am curious to see how well they hold up compared to beard and prp.

I haven't done a lot on the car lately, but I have been filling my time with some side fabrication projects building wrought iron security doors and window guards for people:

I never realized the potential with this stuff. I did 6 windows and a double door for the rear of my brothers house. He was quoted $3600 for this exact design, color and installation. I built them all for around $240 in materials and a couple days of work.

Got the seats yesterday:

The front seats have matching headrests, but didnt have them in for the pics. They were pretty crappy to be honest. Empi sucked it up with the assembly of them. They were backwards to start - the rods have notches on one side so you can adjust the headrest, but they had them reversed such that if you put them on the seat, the headrest folded and curved to the back.

I pulled them apart to fix it and the bars were bent and two of the bolts holding them in had stripped threads on the nuts...

The seats themselves are pretty darn nice actually, sad to see such fail with the headrests.

Picked up the Body this weekend. Took the family out to California to hit up Legoland and San Diego. We ended up breaking down on the way out, in lovely Tacna Az... (Fixed it though with the good old Icepick trick - Duramax hack)

Anyway, body made it home safely and landed right on the pan.

Pseudo Suspension Mockup Smile

I am now debating on whether I should continue with the Pan or not. I am tempted to go full tubular, but not sure how that works with getting it titled, street legal and emissions etc.

Kind of do both, Use the pan as the base of the car and tube around it. My Baja is that way. You can cut the body off and the cage is the car. The only real part of the pan that is used is the Tunel. It is the point that the cage builds of for the front and the rear torshion housing is the rear build point.

That was my current plan, to build it off the tunnel. But I am thinking I might just scrap the pan all together and build it fully tubular.

Scored a great deal on coilovers today. I picked up a full set of ADS 2.125" Coilovers. 10" for the front, 14" for the rear, with reservoirs.

Super excited to get the mockups going now. Pictures to come

Did some quick seat mockups, these things are wider than I thought. Gonna be tight with the cage.

As I read this, it seems it would have made sense to have ordered one of the top ring bodies with the tube frame. Why get a body to fit a pan and then immediately scrap the pan?

There's a cool fiberglass buggy with a full tube frame for sale on TOS. www.thesamba.com/vw/cl...id=1179529

There are a couple of reasons why I went with the full body manx instead of the upper body ring. Main reason was because of cost, the upper body ring is $1600, but then by the time I add in the custom aluminum panels for the sides, fire walls, rear deck area etc, it cost significantly more than the full body.

I plan to stick with the pan on this build, mainly because I dont have a chassis table/jig to build a full ground up structural chassis and can use the stock vw pan as my base and build from there.

In the end, the full body will give me some better protection from the elements and its nice having the interior match the whole car.

Thats not a bad buggy on thesamba, but even with my new body cost and material for the cage, I will be cheaper and everything is new - at the cost of time of course Smile

Picked up a good deal on a set of Front Tatum Billet Disc Brakes.

Now I need to find a deal on some matching rears.

More to come

(Still waiting to pick up my Coilovers from ADS)

I have ADS coilovers on my 5 car. Steve Kuker builds a great shock. You will not be disappointed.
