My name is dave, just joined up, first time baja builder, long time vw enthusiast. I have a 69 i have begun to relieve of it's sheet metal and began the conversion from car thats been sleeping detached from engine and trans in a dudes back lot, into a daily driven fun to rip around in on the weekend machine. so far it has recieved and engine/trans, and a seasoned rear fiberglass kit. And today i got a narrow eye kit fron darryl(Thanks for the awesome deal man!!) that will be making it's way on the car shortly. plan is to have the car running and driving in the near future. hope to get to attend some functions and hang out! I have had air cooled cars since i was 16, i'm 32 now, and my other bug i've had since i was 18. So yeah, glutten for punishment is what i"ve been called. But hey I hope to help out and get some help and learn some more at the same time. So lets drink some beer and build some cars!!

I'll get after taking some pics this weekend, me and my boy were outside lastnight stripping running boards and bumpers getting ready to get the front kit mounted this weekend... If I get my side work done first.. I haven't figured out how to upload pics yet, but hey, how hard can it be?

I cut the front last night, need to do some trimming and get the fit right, but I got it sitting on some 7.00x15s now, got a new master cylinder and 009 with electronic ignition, and a exhaust I am in process of grinding and refurbing. Gonna hit that with some VHT and get a battery for it this weekend, hopefully get her to light.. will keep you posted. And the pics are coming, bear with me.

Spider eye, huh? Initially I wanted bug eye, but when I got to darryls he was clean out of front fenders.. so I figure worst case I will cut the wide eye fenders if I don't like the way it looks, and I'm leaning towards cutting the fenders as I get the nose piece into place. Got some side work this weekend so plan is to get a battery finish my grinding and hopefully get the starter in and get her to fire up. And FYI, interstate batteries on Broadway west of alma school sell reconditioned red top optimas for 55.00. They are the batteries that sit on the shelf past their shelf life, they have a 90 day warranty. I have them in all my cars and they work great, so don't be afraid of the reconditioned part. Will keep you posted on this weekends progress. And a big thank you to all past present servicemen and women on this memorial day weekend.
