To start I'm 26 with 2 kids and barely making it in this harsh messed up covered up government. I'm not too tech savvy on forums so I won't be adding any pics to this thread till I can take the time to figure out how.(sorry)

Well I bought this 66 Baja from some kid that lived in northern phx because the motor blew on my other car cause some mechanic did half assed work. So I bought this thing thinking I would have a good turn key bug (with a little bit of tlc), and man was I WRONG.

So far I have pulled the motor and replaced the rear main, rewired like a third of the electrical, and fixed alot of mickey mouse work( not too thrilled but I am learning a ton and I love cars so no big deal)I eat, sleep, and breath Baja now. I have the Baja infection.

I have done new plugs, wires, added a new air filter and breather box, rebuilt the carb, changed out the tie rods in the front, rewelded the front bumper, relocated the kc lights, added a horn, put in a dome light, added a piece of cable tray to the rear where the battery is, rewired a nice portion of my generator wiring and I think that is it.

From what I know the body is a 66 (terribly cut to Baja) and I have a H30/31PICT carb, and 009 dist, and I think a Mild Cam. It has the stinger style exghaust, 33inch rubbers on the back,a full roll cage and fiberglass hood and front fenders, a fiberglass rear cowl and bucket seats, an oil cooler.

When I pulled the motor (super easy) I degresed it and found my nasty oil leaks and tried to correct them, however I dont think I seated the rear main properly so this weekend im pulling it again and going to see whats wrong.

I have no clue what size the motor is (the stamp is not where everyone says it is, and i cant get this carb adjusted to where I can idle(cold or warm without being super rich).

Any help would be much appreciated (on the carb or motor size)
other then that thanks for looking and its crazy what you can learn on this car in just a couple of days.

Also I forgot that I have Adjusted the valves, set the points and the timing and replaced the belt, but still it wont idle right I'm at a loss here as I'm relying on this thing for work. As it sits now I can drive it but it eats about a quart of oil a day, and I have to constantly double pedal (operate brake and gas at the same time when stopping)

Last question for now. the car has been converted to 12volt but the headlights are still 6 volt (I think), either way they are super dim (useless) how can I fix this?

First off welcome to AZBaja! Second where in glendale are you located? I am off of 51st ave & cactus! Its sounds like the electric idle shut off may not be working or wired right.

Well it has been a long day. I ran up to bap after work to grab an e-brake lever and a new pulley for the crank as well as a new roller pedal(gas pedal fell sideways in traffic today and almost caused an accident). I installed the roller pedal and it looks good but cant test it..... because...... while I was installing the e-brake I couldn't get the cables taught for it to work properly.

So I pulled the tires of and low and behold it looks like the brakes have never been changed, I mean springs are missing and just fubared, smashed, cut, grinded, and the rotors look shot. So tomorrow after work I get to go buy a full new rear brake set-up (stock of course) so I can try and have it all back together and running by Monday.

I guess for now I will have to postpone the offered help from Eric. Until then thanks again and hopefully we can meet up sometime next week.
