Built rack for cage traps. Rack is bolted to mounts that are welded to the roll cage. They go through holes in the roof. Painted everything either gray or white. Still need interior electrical, head and tail lights, install the Jamar shifter, carpet kit, and a good tune of the carb.

Looks great hyperwrx!

That gray is similar to what I had intended mine to be (the paint mixer guy messed up, but I wound up liking the light gray on mine anyway).

I see you also still need a rear skidplate too.

Quite a big rack. What do you intend to carry? Camping gear for long runs?

That paint job is 2 pints of smoke gray Rustolium mixed with mineral spirits to thin it out then is ROLLED, yes rolled on with a small foam roller. It's 3 coats and I did it in my own garage. Look up $50 Rustolium paint job on Youtube. It is far from perfect but adequate for what I use the baja for. White parts are just sprayed on.

I have a rear skid plate I need to modify a bit around the push rods to fit well. Needs paint also.

The rack on the top is large in size and braced through the roof to the roll cage for a specific reason. The rack need to hold approximately 380 pounds. I am a trapper and from November to April I run a trap line daily. In AZ we are limited to confinement traps (cage traps) to trap and I stack them on the top of the rack and make the rounds out in the deserts and hills chasing after bobcats. The cages fit inside one another so I can get a total of 16 cages on the top.

FYI- The money I spend on this baja this year, initial purchase of the vehicle + all the upgrades, I paid for with last year's fur check. Just an indicator how much money can be made trapping.

This next year's fur check with go toward putting in a tuboed or supercharged Ecotec engine. and wider/longer trailing arms. That's the plan anyways.

This is "Skidmark's" Baja from SoCal Bajas. He asked the group for suggestions for painting his Baja. I told him how mine was supposed to have been (I planned that color scheme for my car in the 1970s). This is what he ran with:

There's one of his rattle cans in the foreground.

He used the bright blue same as me on cage work as compared to the white you used. I 1st painted the rear part of my roll cage with Rustoleum rattle can bright blue in 1974 before installing it in another Baja. The paint was still fine and shiny when I ground off some of it to weld on more tubes to build a full cage 30 years later. I finally re-painted it all in 2008. I strongly advocate Rustoleum paint. I learned in building pipelines and other equipment for LA County Waterworks (who has millions of customers over an area larger than many states) that they specify using Rustoleum for all outdoor steel and iron equipment. It is already proving more durable than the automotive enamel I painted the body of my Baja with...And it comes already mixed in the color I wanted in the 1st place at a small fraction of the price.

I should get comission for this....

For about the sixth month in a row, NOTHING, NADA, ZIP. Hopefully I'll get some time off work soon AND find the motivation to hook up my ignition box and see if it'll finally run right. Been home 18 of the last 56 days- UGH.

At their widest part they are about 12" wide. Stock trailing arms just boxed in.

Well it took a week or so but we finally tried it tonight and Wouldn't it figure, I finally get everything wired, adjusted and ready to go and the battery is dead. Mad Gonna let it charge overnight and try it tomorrow night.

She's alive!!!! Got her to start and run pretty good after we got a few bugs worked out. Now just got a couple small things to get done and we should be cruising her around soon.

I pulled off my bumpers and wiped them down, then shot them with primer then satin black rustoleum. I shot the sidebars too. I'll remount them tonight.

Rebuilt the carb, seems to be working now, put a different generator on seems to be charging now, and now on to the brakes they are still too soft to even drive it.

What a weekend Up North, (St. Helen Michigan)….

75’ …Sunny …. Lite Breeze ….. Very Happy

The trails were dry and the colors are just starting to change and it looks like they are going to be outstanding this year...

Fall is one of the best time of the year to ride the trails.. Wink

We had the trails pretty much to ourselves, in two days of riding (about 250 miles) we came across about a dozen two wheelers, two dozen four wheelers, and two rail buggies… “No” Baja’s…

I guess most were staying home after last weekend…

We ran the Geels Trail a couple times, and hit parts of Beaver Creek Trail and Denton Creek / St. Helen trails too….

We didn’t want to come home… So Sad

Lucky 7-11

Sounds like fun!

My son and I headed across the Mojave Desert for Lucerne Valley and the MORE Chili CookOff 250 race in my 58 Baja Friday afternoon. While he loaded the car, I gave it a quick mechanical check and found the left rear IRS pivot bolt missing. I have a few spares, but couldn't find them in a rush, So my son pulled one out of his 72 project and put it in. Thunder clouds looming over the area gave us some scenery watching the light show on the way there and while working Tech Inspection. After Tech we headed out of town for the Start/Finish area up Bessemer Mine Rd. just past the Rockpile where the tragedy happened last year. That road can get get VERY rough at times. It's not fun for those with motorhomes and toyboxes hauling race cars. We tent camped. But at 1/4 til 5, it started raining and we hadn't brought the rain fly for the tent. So I got into the Baja and listened to the rain for 1/2 hour and then was wide awake by the time it cleared off. Some fellow members of SoCal Bajas and some other Baja Bug friends from Desert Rides forums showed up. Both groups had come by offroad routes from Landers some 20 miles east. Steve Jones of SoCal Bajas was racing against my son's team in 5-1600. My son's team got 1st and Steve got 2nd. The AGS Racing team my son is part of already had the 2011 Championship locked up for the 2nd year in a row. Jones is 2nd in points. Then flash floods made getting home an adventure with Hiway 18 closed between Lucerne Valley and Apple Valley and some other water to cross near Hiway 395. Then our home town had SEVERE flash flooding with over 4" of rain in 20 minutes worth of a 2+ hour storm, including golfball size hail. There are now huge gullies 75 feet wide and 15-20 feet deep where before there were 10' wide x 12" deep drainage swales. 4' of mud on some roads and sections of roads washed away. Instead of doing work on my Baja yesterday, we spent the day cleaning up mud out of our driveway and garage and the road in front of the house. Better than the people down our block who had water and mud inside their houses and a foot of mud in front of the front door. Maybe later today I'll get a chance to do a little work on the Baja. Time for me to get out there now.
