what insurance should i get it is going to be like 205 for full coverage or liability is 100 or so.
2500/ year for full coverage
or
1200/ year for liability
and bugs arent that expensive so if i did get into a car accident. and i hope and pray that i dont. i could always save and get another or salvage parts from the recked one and get a project from daryll and fix it up and put my baja stuff on it if i did get into a accident

what do you guys think?
just what your opinions and thoughts.
thanks

If you can afford it, I would totally go with full coverage. Having wrecked a car, and being blamed (I was innocent, seriously, the other guy ran a red light, since I was 16, and some other things I got boned) full coverage is worth it. That was 5 or 6 years ago, and I don't remember all the details, but I'm really glad I had full coverage.

Also heed the advice of your parents, generally they have good knowledge about that kind of stuff. I guess it all depends on the insurance company too. I used to pay almost 3 grand a year on my 98 Acura Integra GSR, and after switching I've cut that by more than half. Even adding the baja I think it is still less than half. With that said, if you can shop around do it. Enough of my ranting, I could go on for hours. Good luck!

If you are going to go with full coverage, get an agreed value in writing. Most insurance companies think our cars are only worth $500-$1500. Rolling Eyes

$1200 a year seems a little step. I am paying about $600 a year for good liability 100/300k limits from State Farm.

My insurance actually went DOWN when I put the baja on it. They're actually PAYING ME $100 a year or so to drive the baja, and it's got full coverage!

Figure that?

I insured mine with American Family as a classic car. They required full coverage on it as part of that. What is cool is the year premium was $5 more than what 6 months premium was with just liability. I have a zero deductible on comp, $500 on collision. No restrictions on mileage or use. I did have to get a stated value for the bug, which I just stated was $5000. That figure and below you don't need an appraisal. However, that does not mean that i will get $5000 if it is totalled, that is just the most they will ever pay for it. It is still the actual cash value of the bug at the time of the loss. That is something to watch for, just because you do a stated value policy, that does not mean that is what you will get. If you are involved in a loss, always get comparable vehicles to yours of the internet or locally to provide as evidence to the value of your vehicle.

I wanted to take the opportunity to mention some information about a state value policy. You need to make sure that your stated value policy really means if something happens to your vehicle you will get the full value. These are usually very special policy with lots of restrictions and requirements. A typical stated value policy is a tool to maximize coverage for the premium. In my case the most coverage I would need is $5000. So I did that on a stated value, but in reality that does not guarantee I will get it. Only if the actual cash value of my vehicle is really worth $5000. For example I will list what my Stated Amount Coverage Endorsement says
Part IV Car Damage Coverages of this policy is changed to read as follows.
Limits of Liability
The first paragraph of this section is changed to read:
Our Limit of liability for loss shall not exceed the least of:
1. The actual cash value of the stolen or damaged property;
2. The amount necessary to repair or replace the property. The amount necessary to repair or replace the property does not include any difference in the market value of your insured car immediately prior to the loss and the market value of your insured after repairs from the loss are completed; or
3. The maximun amount shown below.
So what this means if my car is worth $3000 I will only get $3000, even though I have the maximum amount of $5000. This is a tool to lower the premuim. As you are only paying for the maximum of $5000 instead of whatever.

Just something most people don't know or understand.

I had a '05 Nissan Xterra Off Road, the insurance couldn't find another of the same model near me so they used the base model and gave me the difference between the MSRP's. BS My model had all the bells and wistles and was very hard to find new in '05 and diffcult to find used in '07. The one's I did find were too far away to be considered.

This is why I can't see getting a new vehicle I don't own outright. Pay liability only if it isn't worth a lot, if it's worth $5K or more, I'd say it is worth having full coverage for at least a year or so as your premiums don't decrease as fast as what they'll pay you does.

Basically your damned either way, I would like full coverage on everything, but that isn't realistic, especially knowing insurance and having been there.
