Hey guys,

Ok I think I finally decided to suck it up and swap out the pan on my '69.
I think the pan I got is a '73 according to what I found from the serial number.

I talked to BugZyla a little about it at Bugtoberfest.

The question, is there anything i should know or look out for before I begin?

I plan to clean up the donor pan and bed line it while it's all apart. The '69 pan has the double spring plates and BugZyla told me it's no problem to swap them out to the donor. How can I tell which torsion bars are better to use? i.e. the ones in the donor or the ones in the car now.

Thanks for any help or tips you guys have for me Very Happy

P.S. FYI the reason for the swap is the pivot bolt "nut" in the current pan has been ripped out.

The only way to tell the difference in the torsion bars is to measure them. Both cars should have the long bars, ~26 9/16" which give a better ride. The only other thing to look at is the diameter. Stock is ~22 mm. Depending on setup, you would probably want to go thicker.

I found out the hard way that the torsion tube on a pan I picked up with my car was bent. It had a bow in it between the shock towers, I had just widened the front beam and was bent down looking at that plane and noticed the rear torsion was not on the same plane.
I am not saying yours is bent but it is something to watch out for, this car was raced and without the proper cage support all the weight pushed the center towards the ground......

I wouldn't have thought of that. I know the car I got the donor pan from was used as a parking curb for a buddies rock crawler. The whole roof was caved in Confused ... So I think it might be a good idea for mr to look into seeing if the tubes are bent.

Today I cut the seat humps off and I'm looking for any ideas to quickly and easily remove the rust and crap off of the pan. All of the tar insulation is gone. (already gone when I got the pan) I don't even think it had any. There aren't any signs of there being any.

i used one of those wire cups from the Harbour Freight on my grinder for the pan. Use it for just about everything...

I have a small one for my pneumatic angle grinder, but I only have a small 2Gal air compressor and it wont keep up. do they make one for an electric grinder I have one of those. (from harbor freight) That is what I used to cut the humps off with.

4 foot level sitting on cast body mounts in the shock tower. This pan has long been covered up at the local dump.
