Editorial Review:
Silent Witness is a grassroots organization founded in Minnesota in 1990. A group of artists and writers whom were upset about the growing number is women being murdered by their partners or acquaintances, joined together to form Arts Action Against Domestic Violence. They felt an urgency to do something to speak out against the escalating domestic violence in their state, something that would commemorate the lives of women whom had been lost in 1990 as a result of domestic violence. They created 27 life-sized wooden figures representing all the women who were killed in acts of domestic violence in Minnesota in 1990. They called them the Silent Witnesses. In the next ten years, Silent Witness has become an international initiative with efforts in all 50 states and several countries. The mission of Silent Witness is to promote peace, healing, and responsibility in adult relationships in order to eliminate domestic violence in the United States.
