So instead of building a 2 seat I changed direction again mid stream and ended up trading off the frame of the yellow car and retaining most of the parts
I wanted. when this popped up I figured if nothing else all the parts fit my current car
and most are equal or better and it was nice to have a spare trans I could build, it came with a 1835 and a 5rib both in working shape but unknown, later I found the thrust just beat to hell on motor. The arms were also junk, they had sleeves welded on and only used copper pipe for bushings

Looks like it a great project. Lots of good stuff on that car. Good luck with your build.

POST Photos - use the IMG file listed once you get all of you images uploaded to photobucket. Just copy the IMG name and past it in as text and the photo will show up. Very easy. Look forward to updates on this build.

thanks wideopen, got it working today but I still have to paste one at a time so there might be a better way but it's working for now Last edited by Azdrtdog on Wed May 27, 2015 12:49 AM; edited 2 time in total

Tore the motor down today mostly because of excessive end play, I'll be doing some leg work and watching you tube since this is my first vdub rebuild, last one I chose to go water pumper instead. So unless another cheap suby with plate turns up I'll be figuring out this one. I'll post some tear down pics as soon as I can. So is you can see the case needs to be machined so this will collect dust for awhile

Almost finish stripping the frame and found that the front arms have been sleeved up to a 1.75"OD and the beam is only 2"ID. My guess is back in the day they didn't have Delrin and the urethane was to soft so they sectioned some copper pipe in and called it a day (One shell goes inside the other to get the 1/8" thickness kinda!!)

Welds are all cracked and so is one arm, there only +1 so I was planning on longer ones anyway

First on my car were the shocks and rack

My old rack was 1 1/8 turns lock2lock wiith4" travel, Saco is 2 turns L2L with 5.5"" travel so feels a little lighter but not much

I took a little off the stops and was very happy with the new radius

And of course I put my springs on the kings and put my foa's in the corner till I need leaky shocks again (sold em to a buddy)
My next project pull the bench and put the 2 buckets in the rear, I've always liked that look more. And this was when I realized my car turning better was all I needed

The verde run showed me how heavy this car can get 3 up with full camping gear so I replaced my stock spindles with the funky combos, the realized again my arms were about to lose a coil over mount
I don't know what these things are made of but I've been beating them with 7.50-16 tires that are almost 33's for years and they took it

I ended up ordering some LR +4 arms off ebay for $300, Im use to driving like the front end is made of glass so hopefully they stay together till I can get some Foddrills, I'll post some pics of the install, I noticed a few cracks starting on my arms in the shock mounts so my buddy will use em on his torsion car and they will work fine for awhile

Im playing with the idea of using the other tank as my spare tank for longer trips

The elbow coming out will be about 1/2" above the spare

Back in the day.. we all ran spare tanks on our racks.. when they were not filled we would take the caps off to vent the vapor so they would not explode after a few days in the sun all the vapors would be gone.. just run a fuel filter on the tank to catch any dirt that got into the tank. I built my rack to snap off if I got into a crash.

my old car was "Road Kill"

Love the pic, thanks for digging that up, now I know I'm on the right track with it I'll figure up some tabs and make it an option for the future

Got my arms today, just test fit em for now to see if the tie rods were going to clear diagonals and bottom tube with room to spare and it looks good! I have the tie rods from the other car I can lengthen as needed, and my shocks kinda point in at the bottom so I might double tab the arm mount and center my shock over it
