need a motor plan on having a 1600 dual port engine built ..nothing crazy just slighty above stock...got adjustable push rod tubes r they any good?

whats the largest piston /cylinder i can run and what else would i need to "beef up" to accomadate....wheres the best place to buy/best brand to get for parts...i was thinking about ...going .40 over or something similar ...best bearings...seals to use stock motor issues i should address when i build it?/ also thinking ill replace clutch just to be safe.....

also im gunna go all metal body cut fenders ...there used to be a link here or on the samba where some guy built a blue baja..cut his fenders...did a whole write up on it...cant seem to find it again

Turning the front fenders around and putting them on the back gives wider fenders with more clearance.

For a nice edge on cut steel fenders, you can weld or braze some steel rod or tube to the edge.

For the front, you can cut the bottom of the spare tire well and leave the hood stock. Weld the bottom piece back in to keep the caca out of there. Minnesota is likely to be more wet and muddy and snowy than the dusty Southern California Desert where Baja bugs were invented.

About the engine...
What do you mean by "going .40 over"

I suspect you mean ".040" larger bore diameter". That then suggests someone who is familiar with iron block American V8s, not VW air cooled engines. That's OK. But with VW engines, you replace the cylinders with larger bore cylinders and matching pistons. The largest size which will slip into the engine block and heads without added machine work is 87mm. That with a stock 69mm stroke crank will give you 1641cc. I've run one of those engines in a street Bug for 325K miles before the oil pump died.

Do some shopping at the VW parts houses for parts. MidAmerica Motor Works is probably about the closest for lowest shipping cost. But always shop the others before you buy to keep them honest.

Thanks mojaveracer...u r correct on the engine info..I was told the heads I've got had machine work done....not too long before he blew a hole in the case..but I'm not sure until I take them off and compare to stock what has actually been done...Also is there a good aftermarket oil heater I can put on for cold weather starts?

Thanks again

Yes, This is the video for the article on the metal fenders. Fronts are wider than back so you stick the fronts on the back. You can use fender welt or something like that with a "U" grove that will fit over the fender.

In my case I just filed the sharp edge off them and gave it a round profile. it will not cut you .
