so its been a while, but I'm back in the baja game!

here is what i got!

its been sitting about 10 years… it comes with a spare baja body kit in primer, a spare set of good wheels and tires, and a spare complete engine. got it for basically nothing….

where should i start? haha

also… anyone know a good affordable source for rear glass?

i also need a rear seat.

I'm thinking ill clean the body up, fix the couple rust hole (very small) and paint it OD green with black wheels and tinted windows. id like to get the engine as reliable as possible. I live in ohio so i won't be desert running it, just bombing dirt roads, driving it to work and around town for fun, ect.

my plan when i get it is to tune it up, replace ann the fluids, rebuild the carb, clean and repack the wheel bearing or replace as need be, inspect brake system and replace/fix whats needed and drive it!

i think its a 74 with an autostick but the guy I'm getting it from wait its a 4 speed… not sure if he swapped it or just doesn't remember.

got it home and got to work!

removed the subwoofer "speaker box" from the back… having no rear window actually made it easier! SO MUCH expanding foam… what a pain.

before:

after:

cleaned the interior out and pulled of the lame seat covers:

got the front wheels and tires off, took of the 5 lug adapters and dust caps… surprisingly the wheels drums spin pretty freely… I'm interested to see how the brake shoes look!

heres a shot of the back, just because…

and here is the short list of parts I'm looking for so far…
plug wires
wiring harness
rear glass
rear seat
headlight parts for both sides
dust caps
tires
tune up parts

bunch of other crap…

ALSO! i can't get my passenger door to unlock and open! any suggestions?!

So… today this happened…

I decided to pull the motor instead of just oiling it up, fueling it up and trying to run it… I'm glad I did….

rats nest…

I also took the rear fender off so i can do some work on the mounts, as well, I GOT THE PASSENGER DOOR OPEN!!! YEAH!!!

cleaned out the bell housing. looks pretty good in there!

and here how she looks now at the end of the night after a looong clean up…

i spent a little while with the wire brush cleaning off loose paint as well. my plan is to sand the whole car roughly then smooth it up a pit and paint the whole thing with white self etching primer. something durable that i can just leave. so… not going to be OD been like i had planned. its going to be rat rod white. haha.

it'll be a bit before i make a decision on the long block, but i have plenty to do to the body and I'm considering a new wiring harness, plus i need to clean the trans, work on the trans linkage, re build the axles and inspect/clean/repair the brakes. so stay tuned!

this jack stands under the front end are solid steel 6 ton EASCH. they where my grandfathers. I inherited them when he passed. he used them when he worked on his motorhome.. and his motor home was BIG. they are def old, but still work like a charm… though a challenge to use because they weigh about 25lbs a piece.

fuel filter - the good kind with the spurred ends… still need fuel line
OPTIMA RED TOP
