Is there any Disadvantage or Advantage to running a Center Mount Fan shroud on a Street Baja (no heater)? '69 1835cc .009 Dual 40's. I just like the looks but can only find one source, back in the late 70's they were every where. I ran them on my sand rails/buggies with no problems, but have not ran them on a street bodied Baja. I was just curious as to why they have disappeared from the scene.

From what I've read, the aftermarket shrouds (or tin for that matter) do not cool as well as the OEM.

Just what I've read. I remember the sandrail I built with my father when I was a kid had no issue running hot with an aftermarket shroud.

Being so... I have a stock 36hp shroud and external cooler on my baja now.

Yeah, the consensus back then was that while such fan shrouds seemed cool, they really didn't perform as well as a good ol' 36hp fan shroud. And they were often heavier. All this does not mean they are BAD. Just not any better. For a center mount, you need the generator stand casting as well as the shroud.

you also must run a external oil cooler with a center mount ,no big deal on a baja.
