Hi, all I am trying to install the glass on my baja, but am having a tough time trying to get the gasket to stay on the windsheild. The gasket pops off the corners every chance it gets, and it wont stay on the bottom of the windsheild. Do you guys think it would be ok to use spots of super glue on the widsheild in places just to keep it on the glass? I got the 2 side windows in wih no problems.

I was using that link on how to install the windsheild, its very informative, the pitures help alot. If I can get the gasket to stay on the window I dont think I would have any problems getting it into the baja. I think maybe I just have a crapy gasket. Its acts as if its too big.

Thanks for the offer Rusty! I might need to take you up on that offer this thing is ticking me off! My hands hurt from trying to get this gasket on.
Thanks

I just put a new windshield into mine and had the same problems. I threw the new gasket away and went and bought a second new gasket and it went a little easier, also get it hot hot. I bought the "aloha breeze" from walmart for $10 and those two things combined allowed me to get the gasket to stay on. Ive never had that problem in the past, maybe a batch of gaskets went out that was a little shady.

I have a cool glaziers suction cup that is a MAJOR help, especially in the bottom corners.

Madman...

The windshield should take five minutes (maybe) and two people, once you get the gasket around the glass, which is the part you're struggling with. I've had fit problems before with gaskets. If it's loose, you WILL have problems. If it's too tight, it will probably work.

Here's the trick...

Get the gasket around the glass, SOAKING it in slippery hand soap (not the gritty kind) or dish soap and water.

I've never hear the kite string idea. I use ONE WRAP of 14 gauge electrical wire inside the channel of the gasket, overlaying it in the top middle.

Tuck the windshield in the lip of the opening at the bottom corners first, and have your buddy push HARD evenly while you bang on it (flat hands, not fists) as you get it to sink in closer to the windshield flange. Keep the hard pressure on!!!

You need two flat screwdrivers (#3 or #4). GENTLY pry the lip of the gasket over the middle top area where the wires overlap with one of the screwdrivers. Your buddy is still applying pressure, right? When you get the lip started, wrap both wires around the screwdriver shafts several times so pulling the wire doesn't kill your hands. Pull the wires, one at a time, and the lip of the gasket will schmooze over the lip in the body opening.

You're buddy is still applying pressure from the outside, right?

If you get stuck, just take one of the screwdrivers out of the wire and help the gasket through the opening again past the wire.

It helps if your buddy bangs his hand on the glass every once in a while to help it get smoother and deeper into the opening. Do both sides evenly until you get to the middle of the bottom. When the wire comes out (which it will once you pass all four corners) use a screwdriver again to finesse the rest of the lip at the bottom.

After you have the gasket lip sort of in all the way around... go outside (while your buddy is still applying pressure) and bang the crap out of it all the way around and it will drop right into place.

I'm guessing we could have done two or three of them in the time it took to type this post. They're a piece of cake as long as the gasket fits the glass.

If you think a windshield is challenging, try an oval rear window. They're a real SOB!

With reference to the last message. I find it easier to run a length of string around the rubber.
