My name is Clyde and I live in Springfield, MO. I have been married to the same lovely lady for 48 years. Have 2 daughters, 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A real family man. A Christian by faith and grace. In the mid '70's my wife said she wanted a VW. We were dating in high school when she turned 16 and I drove her everywhere so there was no need for her to drive. She did not work out of the home so her not driving was not inconvient. But I had been after her to get her drivers license as the children were now needing to be taken to doctors, school, activities, etc etc. She asked for a VW, she gets a VW. Over the years we have had several bugs, couple squares, baja or two, convert, bugtruck, buggy, rail, and countless pieces and parts. Build my firts baja (mid '70's) out of parts from different cars. Layed it out in the back yard like a puzzle; body, belly pan, front axle, transaxle, motor(in shop), and various parts. I don't remember building the car but I do remember driving it. I am a current member of local VW club G.R.O.V.E. We do a car show each June, do monthly meetings/activities, and travel to other shows together. THIS year my wife and I are planning a trip (wife conference/me play) to Tucson. I was searching the Tucson area when I came across AzBaja. I would like to make new friends, see some cars and shops while in the Tucson area. Maybe see a cruise-in or attend a meeting VW related. We will be doing some sight seeing on our own but I will have some hours to my self. Do you have any suggenstions? My free time will be on July 11, 12 & 13.

ClydetheGlide welcome. Here is the web link to a nice VW store in Tuscon www.chircoestore.com/c.../index.php . Be aware that our summer temps will probably be in the 110 degrees in the shade range at that time of the year.

Thanks PaDan and 1engineer. I had found the store online and plan to visit. I can see the temps will be a problem. Do you mostly hibernate? Are there still night time activities? I have read of cruise-ins on Friday and Saturday nights. Do they still go on during the summer?

Some of us die hards play year around. 110 degrees is just another summer day once you get used to it. Though we tend to try and do mainly early morning runs, or make runs north to the mountains where it is cooler. I don't have info on Tuscon (I'm in the Phoenix area) activities. Perhaps someone else will chime in if they know. If nothing else Chirco's VW has a forum you could peruse or ask questions in, as it is located in Tuscon.

Welcome. You will find plenty to do, although I'm most familiar with the happenings in Phoenix so I can't help much with Tuscon.

Don't worry too much about the heat, I find it a blessing in disguise. It's some of the best times to go to the dunes or any other outdoor activities because it's less crowded Very Happy I personally love the heat and play year round myself. It's all about what you get used to Wink
You'll find most people come out in the evenings after the sun starts to set, even though the temps in the city at night still won't drop much below 100 in the peak of summer.
Enjoy your visit, you'll have a good time.

Thanks Sandbuggy for the encouragement and wideopenmotorsports for the websites. I have found about 7 evening car events and 2 breakfast events that will let me interact with locals - make a new friend, learn something new. I will be on the lookout for bajas so if some stranger walks up to you (you being anyone that reads this) and starts talking Laughing it might be the kid from Springfield. When I get the picture thing figured out I will start posting my build-a 1958 body on a 1970 bellypan in street baja style. See you around.
