Hey off roaders!!!

It’s that time of year again…. The awesome 400 Miler is coming up fast May 11-12 this is almost 400 miles of dirt starting out at the 4 Peaks Road leaving at 8am sharp take the 4 Peaks Road about a mile back and look for all the buggies. I will be having breakfast at Denny’s in Fountain Hills.I will be leaving Denny’s at 7:30 a.m. sharp. The last gas will be in Fountain Hills, the next stop for gas will be Pumpkin Center, then Young, Strawberry and Camp Verde, then home We may attempt to cross the river at child's. Since it's open camping we will be camping somewhere near strawberry for those of you that prefer a hotel there's many to choose from in Payson and strawberry. Most of us usually have breakfast at the Lodge in strawberry. I really don’t need to say much about this run other than the road isn’t that bad, it’s the speed and the distance that seems to cause cars to break. Loose nuts and bolts and flat tires seem to be the most common repairs. I have not seen any road closures so if anybody knows of anything please let me know.

See you in the dirt.

Have fun folks! Do take plenty of pic's/vid's for those of us on the east coast whom lack the cool off road areas/parks to play on. At least of that acreage size.

Kenny, you sure you got the "balls" to go this year?.....

Sorry buddy couldn't resist

For those of you who don't know, Kenny mounted a set of plastic " nuts/ball sack" on his rail, and the got caught in his exhaust pipes and melted. Which caused a onset of one-liners to him.

See you there Saturday morning.....

A few of our members and stated that the road from strawberry to child's is still closed I haven't really taken a look at the map yet but does anybody have any idea how to get down to child's without taking the road from strawberry last year we went up to strawberry camped and then drove back down the mountain coming out on the beeline Highway. I would really like to try to stay on dirt is much as possible I was thinking about taking 88 over camp verty.. And taking dirt down to child's and then crossing the verty River.. And coming out in seven Springs.. Anybody have any ideas???

Those of you that have never been on the AVC 400 miler this is a relatively easy event most of the dirt roads are extremely mild the issue is this is a very long event in today's we do almost 400 miles on dirt. Stopping for gas, food and ice along the way.. This is not a race this is held on public roads and you will need to obey ALL the traffic laws. Drive within your means and your vehicle's capability. If this is your first time on this event we have the day runners that follow us over for peaks the pumpkin Center and then back in the same day. We have the folks that can't wait to get out there and usually drive somewhere up for peaks and On Friday night and campout.

The biggest issue on this event is loose nuts and bolts and flat tires due to under inflation.

What I usually do is I have a rescue plan I usually back in my trailer and put the drawbar on the truck so all my wife has to do is back up to the trailer and come and get me I've done this for the past 20 years and I've never had to have my wife come and fetch me but it's nice to know it's there if I need it. All the roads are 2 Wheel Drive accessible in one way or another.

Our club's number one rule is "no one gets left behind" you may not see us right away but we've always come back.

Sounds like fun. You guys be safe. I would be there, but a project over two decades in the making comes to fruition this weekend.

My daughter graduates from college. Out in four from Northern Arizona University with a Degree in Journalism and a minor in Photography. Dean’s list. Various honors, publications and awards along the way.

Thanks. She is a good girl.

Less than 7k in loans. We should have that knocked out by the end of summer. Might plan on a year payback to build some credit for her. We worked hard to ensure she could start without a mountain of debt.

Post some pics of the weekend adventure.

Just got back, Almost got my fill of pine trees and back country roads Almost lol! I went out Friday night and it was actually raining! When I got to my usual camp spot I hurredly set up my tent and put my lantern in there to warm it up and provide light to cook my dinner, unfourchantly every insect and moth also thought that was a good idea. I tryed fugally to remove all of my house guests but had to listen to bugs smacking my tent walls All Night! the next day Mike and his girl frieng showed up with his rail and she was driving a Razor 900 she's a very capable driver look foword to seeing her out on the trail. But they had to turn back at Pumkin center. We took one of the original routs from the beginins 76" and Dalton showed me a cabin! It was littery in the middle of no where! Wow there were two beds a stove and fireplace, a creek trickles outside too cool I need to come back here for the weekend, it was totally amazing!! Off we go again My cars running fine Im drifting all the corners and picking the right gears to get me to the next corner! You know the feeling. we finally get on the rim and the wind is chilly! So we find a new camp site in a valley about 5 miles down, camp host comes to our camp to look at those "buggys" he asked the usual questions, people seem to be drawn to our machines, so I figure that I'm an ambassitor to our sport, which is no big deal I love to answer their questions. Me and Dalton have this little contest as it were going on, who can bring the best marinated steak to cook, All I know is that with both steaks on the barbie it was smelling soo good! After dinner and a beer or two I could almost hear my sleeping bag seductivly calling my name so I abliged and drifted off to sleep with memories of the days activities rolling through my head! Its COLD! in the morning but gotta get going and have breakfast at Strawberry Lodge! The road (300) or the rim road is an amazing thing perfect corners and it runs on the edge of the Molligan Rim so there are some Incredible senic views that can only be desribed as postcard quality! WOW! the whole road is amazing especally the views, just keep your eyes on the road! Once we get to the town of Strawberry, to our disapointment the lodge is closed, that really hurt. Since the Verde river is still closed and Dalton was having issues with his steering we decided to err on the side of safty and headed home from there Still an Awsome run as always, Everybody should do it to say that thet did it Kenny Last edited by azdesertrat87 on Mon May 13, 2013 02:11 AM; edited 2 time in total
