Hello all. Just found out about this site.

I'm usually in the Bradshaws off roading in a jeep or blazer. A friend through the blazer channels found out I had a sandrail and told me about this site. All these years and I never knew.

So I pulled the sandrail out of hibernation, renewed the tags and have been tooling around town. Can't wait to get back out on the trails with it.

Hope to catch up with some of you on a trail ride somewhere.

Welcome neighbor. I'm in PV. My daughter and I are building a 69 Baja so we will be hitting the trails around Prescott once it's done. We will definitely have to meet up for a trail run.

What do you think about doing the Arizona Route 66 fun run? Open to all vehicles but I want a group of bugs/rails together. I came up with the idea of "Route 66 Bug Infestation" Since I'm thinking of a bunch of Baja Bugs/rails doing this run together, I want to alter the 2nd half of the run between Oatman and Topock and cruise through the desert instead of on pavement.

Since our Baja Bug won't be done in time for this years run (1st weekend in May) I want to do this for the Rt 66 run in May of 2014.

Spread this to anybody you know with a Baja or rail and see what kind of feed back you get.

Here is the link about the run.

Good to hear from someone so close, had no idea. I'm actually in Prescott Valley too. Very Happy

I've done the Route 66 cruise to Topock and back in a classic car when they have that cruise early in the year (usually several hundred cars participate). I've either missed it this year already or it's coming up soon. Haven't had the time to check. It's a beautiful drive and I love the little forgotten towns, love the history. I honestly don't know anyone with Baja's or Rails since we've nearly always run around alone, and it's been hiding for years anyway.

Not sure if the family would be ambitious enough to go that far in the rail though Laughing Used to run them up and down the I-17 in the 70's and 80's to access some trails but I don't care to get out on that highway anymore. The only way we would get close to Phoenix in the rail nowadays is through Crown King and drop down the backside to Lake Pleasant Laughing We mainly stick to back roads, I tool around town in it (probably have it out this afternoon), and mainly prefer to get lost up in the Bradshaws poking around at the old ghost towns, mines, etc...Unfortunately not alot left to see these days.
Ours has been sitting for alot of years. Just got it up and running again a couple weeks ago, so I'm using it to run errands (sort of a test run of sorts) and I want to update a couple things before we hit the trails hard. I think the Baja Claws on the rear are at least 25 years old now Laughing

The Route 66 run is the 1st weekend in May. I'm not going to have our Baja done in time for this years but next year we will be taking it.

I have a 1950 Chevy truck that I take on that run.

I usually take my 1961 travel trailer with me on the Route 66 run.

Today 11:30 there is a Hot dog BBQ at Hot Rods by Bob in Prescott Valley for classic cars. I'll be there in my Chevy.

I have a friend in Yuma that has a 2 seat rail. He will be bring it up to play in the woods this summer when we get the Baja done. It would be good to have you come along.

What a small world. I know the truck/trailer combo as I see it at Zeke's all the time.

We drive several different things up there, either an orange chevelle, gold firebird, blue mustang, orange blazer, etc...The orange blazer I run all over town, daily driver. I think just about everyone knows that one.

I've never heard of Hot Rods by Bob, not sure where that is. I paint cars for a living here at my house back in Antelope Meadows. I think you're over near Robert and Fain. My wife and I like to eat at that little restaurant for breakfast once in a while (name escapes me).

I'll see if I can't post some pics, I'm sure you'll recognize some of them, others haven't seen the light of day in nearly 30 years though.

Here you go, these pics probably won't stay up more than a day or so (photobucket issues) so....some of these haven't moved much in years along with some other stuff hiding here that I didn't post up, but you might recognize a couple of these.

Yes you are talking about The BackBurner. The hot rodders eat breakfast there Monday/Wednesday & Friday at 0800. I have seen the Sprint several times. The Mach 1 my wife drools over all the time. She was almost born in a Gulfstream Aqua 428CJ Mach 1. Her parents made it to the hospital just in time. LOL

That rail is sweet.

Street Rods by Bob is behind NAPA. First right then about 200 yards on the right.

For classic car shows and cruises check out Cruise Arizona

Getting reading to head over to a classic cruise at 5 pm at Carls Jr. in Prescott Valley.

Later,
Bill

I can't wait for my daughter and I to finish her Baja. I enjoy getting out in the woods in my 4X4 but am looking forward to doing it in the bug.

She already got purple OMNI paint/clear/hardener/reducer. I'm thinking of doing a white pearl base before the purple.

Waiting on a bunch of parts to ship so we can continue with her build.

Once it's done we are planning a back road trip through the woods to Williams for lunch at Cruisers. You interested?

Absolutely interested. We've done the ride up that direction to Dogtown Lake in the past in the blazer but it's been a few years. I actually prefer to do it in the rail as we make much better time than we do in a 4x4.
We access Perkinsville Rd. at the back of our neighborhood, then branch off North towards Dogtown, you can run all the way into Williams and never see a paved road Very Happy
Most times (actually just did this last weekend) we'll head out the back of the neighborhood and jump onto Perkinsville and run up to Jerome for lunch, come in the back way where the old mans Ghost town is behind the fire department.
I actually have some things on order for the rail too. I'm moving the gas tank back and over the engine where it should have been anyway, to clear a spot for a single rear seat. My son is 13 now and he wants to ride. Wow I can't believe it's been that long Laughing So I'll need to make a couple of new bars. Since I'm getting rid of the storage tray in the process I'll probably go ahead and make a removeable roof rack to carry supplies. So I have some work ahead of me. I had to toss on a set of front tires since the original Mickey Thompson's were so dry rotted from sitting that I didn't trust them. I just threw on some cheap car tires for now (not really a trail tire but they roll, so I'm a little worried they aren't all that puncture resistant like the Mickey's are). I'm contemplating whether I trust the Mickey Thompsons on the rear, I know they are at least 25 years old. No signs of dry rot on those but....I don't want to throw $800 worth of tires at this thing yet until I get all the bugs worked out from sitting the last 15-20 years.
We'll stay in touch for sure. I might even be tempted to run it around out back this weekend for another short trial run.

That is going to be one cute bug. I love the baja bugs, my wife was tempted to buy one a few years ago, she's always liked them.

Welcome to the site. I live in Phoenix but have a home in camp Verde. Would like to join you on some rides up around PV and area. I have been doing the Great Western Trail route from Mexico to Canada that runs through AZ and part of it uses the trails you all are running. Hope to join up with you for a run.
