Hey Off-Roaders!
Check out this weather!! WOW!!!
Dan a member of the AVC wants to take us to one of his favorite spots, the old town of Sundad. I’ve explored much of this area but I don’t believe I’ve ever been to this spot I can tell you that the roads are pristine and 2 Wheel Drive approved. This is the perfect time of year to explore the low desert in this one particular trip is a good run to toe your vehicle out on we will be entering and exiting the dirt at the same spot so those of you that only like to drive their ride on the dirt this is a trip tailor-made for you. I am really looking forward to explore a place I have not been yet everybody’s invited so come out and play.
See you in the dirt

How about leaving from the Denny's at 75th Ave and the I-10, North side, at 8:00 AM. Lots of parking there in the Home Depot parking lot next to the Denny's. Drive to the launch point at the intersection of Old Hwy 80 & Agua Caliente Rd. ( 33.259858°, -112.800795° ) Leave the launch area at 9:00AM.
My experience on this trip is that it takes about 5 to 6 hours. Once you leave Hyw 85, no fuel and it is about 70 miles round trip from the launch point at the stockyards.
I-10 west to 85 south towards Gila Bend
85 south 5 miles to Hazen Rd turn west
West on Hazen 2 miles to Wilson Rd turn south
South on Wilson Rd 0.5 miles to Old Hwy 80 turn west
West on Old Hwy 80, 12 miles to Agua Caliente Rd turn west
This is the launch point. Across from the cattle stockyards.
At 0.69 miles from Old Hwy 80 the road turns right onto dirt.
Agua Caliente Rd west-ish 19.2 miles to Fourth of July Wash
Exit the Agua Caliente Rd and turn South down Fourth of July Wash 2.8 miles to windmill and a good place for a break
The windmill also has the remains of an old dirt airstrip. If the sun is right you can find Arizona diamonds (small quartz crystals) glinting in the sunlight here.
A total of 8 miles down the wash comes to RR tracks.
To the left (east) about 200 feet is an old watering station used when the trains were steam locomotives and a good place to pause.
From the old watering station you need to follow the GPS track I’ve included to Sundad ghost town. The road is winding and in some spots all but disappears.
Sundad is located at 33.181935°, -113.235747°
From Sundad, return to the stockyards via Agua Caliente Rd. This part of the trip, the road is slippery in the many turns.
From the stockyards to Sundad and back is 70 miles round trip.
Nothing on this trip presents any obstacle greater than theHassayampa river run. The only downside to this trip is the long haul on the Agua Caliente Rd. While it is graded and easy on the cars, it is dusty. I suggest good spacing between cars. Also, some spots tend to be slippery in the curves so be please be careful.

Sounds like this turned out to be a good event. Camping in the area was great idea. Sorry to have missed it as we had a race in Mexico. Maybe next time.

Sorry I missed it. I was a day late getting my car drivable. Sounds like it was a great run.
