You mean it is no fun turning off the ignition? Is it missing a carb spring? Disconnect the cable and start it up work the carb to see if it is the carb hanging up. Some times the cable frays in the tube or the tube is full of dirt. Also look at the acc. pedal for binding there.

Mine was very difficult to press but not sticking. It broke and I had to replace it on the side of the road. The first thing I noticed was that it was easy and very smooth. You may have some fraying of the cable. Takes just a sec to replace it.

Definitely better find the problem and fix it. Maybe disconnect it at the carburetor, and (with a helper) work the pedal back and forth while holding the cable end to try and determine if it's in the cable or not. If not, must be carb linkage. You're asking for trouble if you keep driving it like that!

just connect a piece of rope to the carb and pull it.
always a good way to get home if it breaks
but i would check for the spring on the carb and just pull the old one out and put a new one in with a bunch o' grease in it
and i highly doubt it will stick

Huh? You lost me with the rope on the carb, Jethro. Laughing
Grease the carb spring?

i have a Sand rail and mine was sticking from the cable or shall i say the locking tab or barrel that holds the cable it was hitting the carb when i pushed down on the accelerator then holding at full idle having to turn it off it was working itself loose at first. but after a few times i figured it out. put some elec tape around it so it wouldn't slide from slide to side. hope this helps. new at this rail and vw engine so not very tec'y on part names.

We just got a 1970 bug that had been rebuilt. The accelerator is a roller pedal and connected to the same base rod that the brake and clutch are on. The accelerator pedal seems to stick when you press or hold the clutch. While pushing the pedal with your hands you can see the rod spinning and all the nuts spin at the same time and the accelerator stays down until you release the clutch pedal. Do the nuts all need to be loose or should we rerun the pedals to have the clutch and brake together and the accelerator as a standalone pedal?
