So we pulled out the transmission in my bros 64 baja bug. We swapped tranny's to find that that didn't fix the problem.

The car wont shift into gear.
The clutch cable isn't stretched.
The clutch pedal moves with the trans lever.
We drilled three holes in the tunnel to check the clutch cable tube which is still intact.
The pressure plate is almost brand new (says the shop)

I think it could be the throw out bearing but us nor the shop know what the problem is.

any ideas?

Shift Coupler, or your throw out bearing is the wrong type for the pressure plate that you're using.

How does the pedal feel? When does it feel as though it engages with the clutch? At the bottom of the pedal travel or top?

The pedal travel is set perfect and the throw out bearing was the original from the previous trans. The only other thing the shop could think of was the fork that the bearing sits on. We talked to them today and they said that it might need to be replaced.

I don't get the whole setup yet but I know that the lever on the trans is real free moving. it doesn't take much for it to pull and so I think that it's not engaging the clutch. Also... I can switch into any gear with out using the clutch pedal. It shift's almost perfect. I don't have any gas in the car so I haven't got to really drive or attempt to. Starts up fine though.

Different year transaxles require different pressure plates.
Non trans cause stripped hub.

Your post lacks data. For me there is no detail of what the symptom was befre you swapped the transaxle.

If the lever is Freely moving without resistance then it isn't engaging with the Pressure plate. If the pedal pushes all the way to the floor and you don't feel resistance, it's not engaging either.

I had one side of the throw out bearing fall off once when I didn't adjust the preload correctly. It always seems the keeper pins suck.

Sounds like it's not engaging and unless it's running, it will shift into gears fine. If it shifts into gear while running and doesn't go anywhere that's a whole different issue.

Put it into gear and give it a push while it's not running. Does the engine turn?
