Hey guys I never did post my build pix on the big bug... So here we go. Started as a well used and spray painted north carolina car (autostick junk) that I got as an xmas present when I was 11.

Once the car was cleaned up and we (dad and I) knew what was there we began designing and fabbing. New floor pans were put on to a karmann ghia center tube (my pan was bent at the beam from an accident)

The pan was coated in Gravi tex and the transmission ( 4.86s, super diff, welded gears, thing stubs and axles) was installed.

A one piece body lift was designed and welded up by dad to bolt directly to the pan

The body was painted in my garage, with a sceme I drew on a piece of insulation while I was bored.

At this point It begins to look like something...

A single port 1835 was put together ( I ran dual kadrones for about a year before switching to a single 40 Weber)

As I said before...It's a gorgeous car. Your dad and you have done beautiful work!

There are 3 items in your build which show in these photos that I don't recommend.
1. This is one I mentioned elsewhere...The front sway bar will cause substantial handling trouble with the bigger tires. It will make the car "push" especially on dirt. It's also likely to break offroad. And it will probably rub on the front bumper when the suspension is compressed.
2. The deep oil sump...This is hanging down and HIGHLY vulnerable while offroading precious ground clearance is reduced. You could ask 57Baja why his specially modified bumper cage to clear his deep sump hung up in Last Chance Canyon where it would have slipped right over without the deep sump, and the Baja next in line got hung up and cracked his cast sump (on a Ford V6, but same height) at the same time... Or ask another SoCal guy Skidmark about his Subaru sump which hangs down about the same and the damage to it on another run. Catching a sump on a rock can be catastrophic to an offroad car and to the local environment as well. You don't want to rename your car "Exxon Valdez"
Skid plates are very important too!
3. Mechanical oil pressure gauge...It takes about 11 or 12 feet of oil line to the dash which is all highly subject to failure. I've had nearly new name brand line fail in my pickup. It's also a place to accumulate dirt, metallic particles and other undesirable material as the oil in the line doesn't get flushed out at oil change time. I recommend electric oil pressure gauges for Bugs.

These are minor, easily altered items on an otherwise very impressive build.

Well, as you can see in the lower pics, the sump is no longer on the car. Because it is mostly a street car, the sway bar is a nicety, and the mechanical gauge is just something we had, and I've had great luck with it.
