Yes, I will have the headlights and lower fill lights done. The Floods on the roof rack are not on the top of the list of things that need to be done. Running and drive is still number 1. Other things will get checked of the list as I move further on.

Seems a lot harder to find the 3/8th fuel barbs than I recal. Will head over to lopers and start spending some money.

Next over to the glass shop on broadway and price and see if I can get a new mirror cur for my billet aluminum mirror. The old mirror fell out. it did not brake the glass but the silvering got wet as it was on the floor of the car.

Placed an order for a new K&N Filter E-3550 from Amazon. $35+ well the old one was on the car for well over 15 years so it is not that bad of a deal.

I hope to start the car this week!!!! Still need to clean out the lower fuel tank (Stck VW). but the upper spun aluminum Pipe/Log/Keg tank should be fine to run on.

Stay Tuned....

Got a lot of stuff done this weekend.

Front shocks adjusted - Thanks Dalton

Most of the wiring is done. Still have to do the front blinkers etc. and loom and zip tie stuff in place.

Found that one of the base gaskets under the carb was bad. Must of sucked it in a few years ago. Went to install the new K&N filter and found that the carb was wobling a little. - Fixed new gaskets

Lights are in Hi/Lows and the driving/fogs on the nose.

Brake lights are wired back in and work

Fuel system is done up to the 10gal Aluminum Pipe Tank (Yes it is made from a section of pipe). VW bug tank still needs to be cleaned

Car now has 3/8 fuel line from front to back.

Still to much to list, lots of work done over the past 3 days.

Still needs cosmetic stuff put back on the car like Skid plates, roof rack, KC Lights, Seats, Rear deck and carpet, rear shocks, review mirror, Window washer and blades. etc. etc... And a new radio must have some sort of tunes.

The goal this week was to have the car a driver again...Well you know what?

It is not a driver. Seems the needle valves are bad in the carb and gas just dumps out of the float vents. Bet heck the 3/8 fuel line works good Smile

Just closeing it up as my weekend is over and need to get some sleep, I do work nights.

More going on. Had to pull the carb off for a rebuild. Then had 1 of the float bowl screws pull out. bumber. Repair Kit from Holley cost close to $95. I find a 12x24 Helicoil kit from O'rielys for $24.
New Plugs, Cap & Rotor. Cold compresion is 175,205,205,150. Water got in the motor and had some water in the oil. We will see how it goes when I run it a little. I'm thing the valves have some rust on them. Hope it is fine for now and clears up after it is run a little if not it will need some other work. But it will be after the River Run.

O did I say it fired up, did not run long. more than lily the carb being filled with old gas gunk. Still flush old fuel out of car.

What is up with the new gas cans? Like 3 hands to use them. I do not need or want a safety spout.

The goal is to be a driver this weekend. not much else left other than Carb rebuild finish once I get the helicoil in then fire it up.

Ok, new update. The part that needed to be replaced in the end was the pickup coil in the distributer. It put out a low volt wave that would jump start the Chrysler Orange box and run. But some times it would have a little miss.

The pick up coil did not have the voltage jump to trigger the MSD with out scatter firing it. It did not fire the the GM HEI system at all. That is what had me going is the fact that it ran on the chrysler orange box but nothing else.

Here is the set up I have now $25 GM 4 pin HEI

Now I have 2 weeks to put all the parts back on the car...FYI did I say it runs!!!

Unlike most of you that had a Baja at the river. I did not make it out of the driveway so this makes number 4 for me with out a car...

Got back sunday and pulled the fuel pump off the car. Checked it for problems. Presure regualtor Slug and Spring move free inside the pump body. Put it back on and still had fuel flowing out of the vents on the carb. Replaced the needle in the float bowl with another new one and did not fix the problem. I could bounce the float with an allen so I know it is not stuck

Monday pulled the secondary float bowl off to see what was going on inside there. Well come to find out the Holley white plastic float was about half full of fuel. After some hunting found an O'Reilly Auto Parts
at southern and gilbert that still had after market Holley parts. Thanks to Bugzilla for pointing me to this place. New float is the black solid float. The same type I have on the primary side of the carb.

Next step to fixing my idle proble was my main return sping was a little loose over the yars so it would not fully close and would idle from 850 to 2000+ RPM just depending on how fast you let the plates shut on the carb.

New return spring Fixed the idle and float fixed the stumbling and stalling etc. Car winds up to 7500RPM like it should and idle.

Baja is starting to return back to the glory days of its youth!

As a racing Tech Inspector, one of the items we require on race cars, and I know VERY WELL that the green Baja is NOT a race car, is 2 return springs on the throttle shaft of every carb or throttle body. Not on the pedal, though one there is good too. The idea being that if your spring breaks, you still have a return spring. And no matter what happens to the cable or linkage, you still have a return spring at the throttle shaft.
I recommend it strongly for play cars too.

in fact there are 4 springs on there the two built into the carb. Then main spring and the back up spring that is a lite duty spring.

the main spring was the one that was a little longer than it should be and the back up spring was left to close the plates it just did not close them all the way. just a little left open. not enuff to move the car if it was in gear but out of gear it would wind up

Been driving The Green Baja to work the last few weeks. So, some more updates.

Electric fan motor was just worn out. Stopped over at perrib shop to get the fan of the old motor shaft. Talk about a pain. ended up drilling out the old motor shaft to get the fan off the motor.

Need to work on the side mirrors as the vibration has them sagging like a sad puppy. Not the big of deal but I lost the rear view mirror inside the car too.

I have one of the aluminum billet rear view mirros that mount to the cage inside the car. Monday on the way home from work I could hear this crazy buzz but could not figure out were it was coming from. Well the mirror jumped out of the billet frame, crazy. The odd part is the silver and glue for the mirror are still in place in the billet frame. The glass seperated from the back coating on the mirror. vibrations...?

T-Cable - The Z bend the hooks into the roller pedal seems to be no longer Z shaped and pulled out this moring on the way home from work. No biggie, pushed it back into the hole in the pedal and started home again. Did it two more time after that. need to look into this and see if the hole in the pedal is now too big or the bend in the T-Cable is letting it slip.

Now I need to hook up light on the inside of the car as fixing the cable in the dark was a little harder than you think.

Any one have some door screws for the door to frame and the body bolts not being used. Seems I have some bolts missing. Working passnger side window regulator would be nice to for a 67.

Need to re jet the Holley, it is running to rich after fixing a gasket leak on the intake.

Heck, not bad for a car that was built over 20 years ago.

It is nice to be just fixing odds and ends now.
