HI , I have a short hello interduction in the new member forum. I have a 100% stock 1970 bug I plan on running on local trails for fun as a full body ,, class11 style. My original plans were for a full baja but this fell in my lap and I figure ,, Its so complete I'll start out with a full body set up and see how that goes. I serched the forums but didn't find a answer to my tire question . It looks like class 11 guys run the stock steal wheels. My question ,,, !- What size tire can/should I get ? ,,, Will they fit as the car sits ? My car is 100% stock right now but the tires are rotted off so I need tires now to get it home. Do I just buy a set of rollers for now ? If I am able to run a larger tires ,, Is there a brand thats recomended ? Will I be running tubes ? Thanks Steve

Your stock bug without a suspension or body lift will only be able to run 205/70r15 tires. Put a 3" body lift on it and you can run 215/75r15's. Put lift spindles and a body lift and you can run 235/75r15's. Some have gone even larger though. I had a stock superbeetle that I had 205/70r15's on it. I currently have a bug with 3" body lift, and front adjusters with the rear reindexed and the springplate notched. I run 225/70r15 on stock wheels. I rub a little in the front when at full locked out. The 225/70r15 are just shorter but wider than 215/75r15.

Class 11 racers with stock suspension arms and NO body lift use 7.00-15 or 235-15 tires on stock wheels. The stock wheels and stock fenders are required by rules. The fenders can have the inner edges rolled or hammered flat. They use ALL of their wheel travel and it works well. rotating the rear torsions a spline and cut and rotate the front torsions helps for ground clearance, but does not affect tire clearance. If it works for them, it will work for you as well. You could throw some used tires on it (commonly available in my area for $20 each mounted) for now and see how you like them.

For runs in your area, check out my signature. SoCal does runs once a month, all over SoCal, including in the mountains above Orange County.
