I think I owe my love of the VW to my Grandpa! I can remember glimpses of the VW's that he had and one that I ended up with called the WeeOne which was a homebuilt on a '55 chassis cut down about 24" from the pan with a home made body on small tubing. It was a blast and I beat the living hell out of it until I got more interested in Rx7's and let it go back to the backyard grave. I ended up giving it to my Cousin in CA and haven't heard what has ended up with it. I may just go back and get it!

I remember my Grandpa working on several VW's and I helped him cut the fenders on one Beetle that he was turning into his version of a BAJA. He put big tires on the front and even bigger on the back and man he would talk about how dissapointed he was with it after that. In retrospect I would say he was having issues with gearing, HP and he blamed the larger front tires for problems going through the sand.

What I loved most about my Grandpa was that he wasn't afraid to take the stock beetle that he had into places that I didn't know if we would get out of. We always made it and rarely has my VW's left me stranded completely or any that I can think of that he had except for one that Blew an Engine. Even Stock they are so capable and rugged! Nothing modern compares to the VW!

I would thank my Grandpa for giving me inspiration and determination as well as my sense of Adventure and willingness to go places and do things others wouldn't. I wouldn't be who I am if it weren't for his influence on my life.

Love you Grandpa! RIP

After I sold the black vert I bought a '64 bug but sold it.

I had been building a volksrod for a guy. He took it home and it sat for a year. I bought it, did some work to it and then sold it.

Now, I still have the '67 westy project and a ratty '67 bug
