My Granpa signed up last night as a member to your site so I am signed on under his name. He and I are building a 1971 Street Baja. I will be 16 in Nov and Granpa says the car will be mine. (YAHOOOO!) The body was removed with a chain hoist and a tree limb. I took a poicture of it swinging in the breeze and printed it out with "You might be a red neck if you have a VW as a wind chime" granpa loved it. He has had the car for about 25 years. My dad learned to drive a stickshift in it. My question is what does 3x3 mean as far as the rear end goes. Granpa is at work and I have been reading all I can about VW's but cant find out what it means, I have seen 4x4 also and assume it has something to do with the tailing arms but for the love of mud can't figger it out. Anyone want to teach a young whipper snapper something new? Question

It's the size of the rear traling arms. 3X3 means the they are 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider.

They would increase the rear track by a total of 6 inches

Thanks, I owe my grandson a THANKS, Laughing I do believe he needs to learn when to keep certain things private. But it is a memory he will remember all his life! Thanks for taking the time to entertain him and answer his questions. He is 100% into building this VW Baja, (So am I, may be hard to GIVE it to him when it is finished!) I have pictures as soon as i figure out how to attach them I will send progress reports to all.

Would love to Maybe when we get this WIND CHIME running and he gets a break in school we can wind her up and head your way. Looking over the board and chatting with the few I have sounds like you guys have an excellent club. Wish we had something like that around here. How do I post a picture from my hard drive.

I will post a picture of the WIND CHIME. Once I figger out how to get it here. I can handle nuts, bolts and grease, it's the electrons, wires, and computers that whup my deck lid.

Greg (The Granpa)

Greg (The Granpa)

Here is what I posted on another forum on how to post pictures (I've adjusted it to fit this forum):

Ok
Step A:
1st - Do you have photos which are in digital computerized form?
2nd -Are they ".jpg" format?
3rd - Are they on your home computer?

With all of the questions above answered "yes", we can go on...

Step B:
1 - Open a free "PhotoBucket" account (if you don't have one already). It is for sharing and storing pictures.
photobucket.com./
2 - Then upload your photos to the site. You don't have to upload everything you have, just do what applies to the Baja Bug for now. Organize them into an album so you can find them easier.

Step C: - Once you have all of that done, it gets easier.
For any Forum or Board:
- Go to the forum and open the posting window.

- Then open your account at Photobucket in another browser tab and log in. Go to your album of the Baja. Find the picture you want.

Each photo in Photobucket has a group of links in boxes under the picture. The bottom link is best for putting photos in posts on this or any other forum.

- Click on the bottom link ("IMG Code") and it will put a small yellow box next to the photo which says "link copied".

- Go to your forum post writing window and click on the spot in the message where you want the picture inserted. Then press "Ctrl" and "V" at the same time. It will paste the photo in your post.

You can click on the "Preview" button at the bottom of the message writing window to see how your post looks with the photo in it or to check grammar/typing/whatever.

For posting photos from other places on the web:
- When you come to the place in your message where you want the photo, Click on the Photo link tool above where you type the message. It's on the left lower row next to the skull and crossbones and shows a yellow background with mountains in gray and a sun shining above.

- This will open a small window asking you for the url of the image you want to insert. Paste the url from the address bar of the image into the box. It will insert it into the message.

You can use this method for Photobucket too if you click on the "Direct Link" button next to the picture.

WOW, sure glad you sent me them instructions!! Lane would have had the car given to his grankids before I figgered it out. What ever happen to "Computers will make your life so much easier?". Lane (My gandson) said he wanted a Baja after seeing photos of one I had with is dad in a car seat! While I was statoned in Vegas at Nellis AFB. Told him the only way he could have it was to build it. So here we go. He finally knows the difference between a Bus Driver and a Screw Driver, Boy do We have a long way to go, But he is willing to learn and that keeps him out of trouble, and gives us some great times together. Thanks again for the help. Will post photos ASAP.

Cool! Glad to be a help. Let me know if you still have trouble with it.

Just remember...The modern spelling of "frustrate " is "c-o-m-p-u-t-e-r"

LOL

There are times I reach for a pencil and a pad of paper.

But then, the rest of us wouldn't know about your wind chime without computers.
