I don't know specifically if you can do that easily; cut one off to weld to another...

I DO know when it goes back on, you have to very carefully make sure the pan and the frame head are level, square, and measure the same from one point to the next, on both sides, identically on diagonal.

Say you measure from the top of the spring plate supports, as good a point as any. The measurement diagonally from the right support to, say, the left upper corner of the frame head has to match the same measurement from the left support to the right upper corner of the frame head...all the while maintaining level and square with the relationships of the other parts. Get it wrong, and the suspension dogwalks, hangs corners higher or lower, or screws the caster/camber relationships up to the point the car can be un-driveable.

See about talking with an experienced pan chassis welder, and heed what they say.

I'm doing the same thing with a '71 pan, but I'm using a new manufactured link-pin frame head, just to be safe, and I'm contracting it out to a welder very experienced with VW pan chassis.

He did my pan floors, and its almost impossible to see how he did it...and they had real problems.

Good Luck!

Dave C.

Daryll's conversion is the easy way to do it espcially if your not going to lenghten the pan by moving the beam forward.
If you have the body off it is easy to level the pan and weld in the donor beam head. I used sections of the donor tunnel to fish plate the sectioning from the inside and used rosette welds to strengthen the splice. Tack weld and measure twice and it will weld in straight. On mine I had moved the beam 4" forward.

I could be wrong, but I believe this beam uses EVERYTHING link pin. The tube spacing is all that's different so that it will bolt to a balljoint frame head.

Tony is right, everything from your stock beam will bolt right on.
