It was suggested to me to do one on the east side. Sycamore Creek was an area that was suggested. What does everyone think? I havent been there in like 30 years so I dont know how it is out there.

Look up lower sycamore creek. It looks kind of like the Haysayammpa.

Does anyone know if we can still get to the backside of saguaro lake? It'd be cool to get back there and spend the night Smile

i was out there just this morning at sycamore creek.... it is alot like the haysayammpa river bed, but there are alot of hills to play in. the way in is easy and lots of places to set up camp. and the access to the back side of saquaro lake is just down the road about 2 miles... and there is about a million trails and washes there.

there was a mention in the sand sports magazine a couple of months ago, gave it a great review for a place to play.

north on bush highway going to payson, turn at the new bridge at the saquaro lake turn off and go north thru the iron gates and follow the dirt road down to river bottom.

on an given summer nite people camp out here every weekend ....there are no bathrooms or anything near by... nearest gas station is over 12 miles away. so plan on bringing everything to get by with.

i have a couple of pics of the area on my photobucket.com just search ikill6453

so lets start the poll of when? all my weekends in january are open... so anytime is good for me.

The lake is accessed through The Rolls right across on Highway 87.
You can still get to the coves.

Other way 202 E. to Country Club north to 87 north. Get off at Saghuro Lake exit and turn left to Sycamore entrance.

Hey guys the AVC is planning its annual New Years Camp out on the Wednesday before New Years (29th) and returning Jan 2nd (Sun). We're planning for maybe Alamo Lake that way some of the fishermen can do their thing. The trails around Alamo Lake are super smooth fire roads all smooth graded dirt and there is a store with a gas station in case you need something or to top off your tank. Its not set in stone yet but just wondering if any of you might be interested? thanks

so i was out last weekend at sycamore creek... lots of people on quads, saw a couple of rails, and a few 4 x 4's.

going out again this weekend.... 80 degrees on sunday... i am thinking i will go out noonish. if you see me flag me down... i take riding breaks on the top of the hills ... good spot to watch the fun.

easy to get to, exit 199 on the bush or beeline freeway and go north... cant miss it....

hi all.... great day at scycamore today, went out with new member "scooby" and his wife, with our rails, nice flat sand in the riverbottom, did some hill climbing, pat "scooby" went up widow maker hill with no problems. saw one red cut up baja, thought it was an old burro style but wasnt... lots of quads, motorcycles, rhinos, etc....

cool thing that happened during a nice speed run down the riverbottom, an ultra light buzzed low (less that 100 feet off the deck) tipping its wings when passing us.... kinda kewl.

cant wait for next weekend ... to answer the previous question yes there is a very noticable area at the riverbottom that will be a "meeting place"

i have heard of a couple of 5th wheels may be out there and i know by friend pat and his wife are planing to bring theirs, but not go all the way down to the bottom.... for those of you bringing trailers lets try to get together and posssible camp at the same area.... we could sing coombya aroung the campfire.... lol

anyone needing a map to this area please go to my photobucket.com account and search ikill6453 ... i have a couple of maps of the area.

note to all... bring firewood if your staying the nite....

There is a large area bounded by large Palo Verdes on the right side about a 1/4 of the way down that has room for fifth wheels, it can be taped off and we can get a bit farther away from the dust and traffic at the spot where the road and creek meet.
Did you stay for the Christmas tree burning party last night?

sorry no we didnt stay for the tree burning... there was a sudden urge to leave when the sun went down and the temp dropped.... we had been out since noon or so, and didnt bring heavy jackets... and there was a batch of wings cooking at native new yorker that had our names on them....

perri i am planning on trailering out early sat. morning, can you show me that 5th wheel parking area, and i can bring some flagging to mark it. i know alot of the people dont like to drag their 5th wheels down a bad road so that may be a great idea to circle the wagons near the top.

invite to all.... bring firewood and plan on a nite run.... make sure you lights work good, and dress warm for the nites, daytime temps are suppose to be near 69*...... love it.

What time do you want to meet Saturday? Since Four Peaks has been graded the road should be getting graded this week.

well since i started this adventure i guess i need to post something...well here goes..
first.. i want to thank everyone who showed up....
jwh and family and i mean the family... grampa, mom and dad, a cousin and one other person i met, but now forgot who he was.... anyhow they brought jwh's baja, (which was the only one there saturday) grampas rail, turboed fuel injected sandhopper with an automatice trany from a bus, and a couple of quads.
perri and his 11 year old daughter showed up, he had is rail.
then paul from azvw drove by and later he join up with us on a good run to the windmill on fr 1847.
new members pat and pam showed up, with their rail, and of course i was there in my rail, and my youngest daughter came out to spend the day with us.

then we got word that dalton was on the way.... it was noted when dalton showed up with his rail and his dog that it was kinda like mad max in road warrior... post war, man traveling with dog...etc.. i had to laugh... sorry dalton.

did a couple of runs in the morning and noon time, like i said we ran down forest road 1847 to the windmill, then back to camp. later we hit firemans hill i think, then it was dusk and needed to get back to camp, cause the bbq was calling us to dinner.

perri was at widow maker just before dinner, and i was told he driving on the side of his rail... and needed a valve stem to get back to camp, sorry i was not there to see that.

with night coming, dinner was great and 3 of us left to do a nite run... it was cut short due to a massive influx of jeeps and 4 x 4's, i would guess about 100 min. maybe even more like 150... i was told that a jeep club planned a run.

only bad thing that happened another rail out there, not part of us, at widow maker, flipped and rolled down or off a ledge and ejected the passenger out and the rail was on top of him... plenty of people to help them there, air evac was called.... dont know anything more.. hope they are well.

i really enjoyed the whole day, planned on coming back sunday, but cause of all the excitment of saturday... i went home with the full intentions of coming back in the morning but slept in to about 10am... i dont know why... ??? too much fun??? yeah... lets blame that.

great people great time ... time to plan another soon.... maybe box cayon?

1st run... firemans hill or not... pauls rail, in back ground is dunehopper...

perri and daughter.... getting ready to go.

if anyone has followed or tried to follow perri, you know you must wonder if he has been drinking..... lol.... so we made him do a dui test.... just kidding but it is a funny pic... one of the best

paul and his rail, on fr 1847

thats me, then paul, d and d on site.... that is dalton and dog.... aka road warrior, and pamala (pats wife)

following pat and pam on fr 8147

at the windmill west end of riverbottom.

leaving windmill, all in my dust... ha ha.. but not for long... dalton flies past me like i was in reverse... then perri...

dalton and perri coming down widow maker.... dalton going slow, perri going fast...

me, trying to slow the earths rotation down i tryed pushing a rock with my front tire and ... well ....earth is still rotating... blew the bead off....

so i made my daughter fix it... well showed her how.

dalton ... praying to the tire gods .... lol.... rocks in the bead made the tire flat.. only on the bottom.

sorry jwh... no pics of you... or your mom and dad... maybe you thought you were here....lol anyhow.. with great weather and great people... this was a sucsess even for the low turn-out. good times .

please... everyone... take the time to take pics... and share them.

thank you
mike

We had a geat time and the weather was perfect.
View from the road to Needle Rock. We had to turn around as the final portion of the road is closed for Bald Eagle breeding season. Fine for trespassing is up to $5,000.

Sunday morning rise to Slide Rock.

Sorry I couldn't make it to this one guys! Didn't have the finances to put new tires on the front. Those things are damn near bald and dont do well with offroading. That and the chika wanted to hang since she just got back from a month long trip to New York.

I'll definitely try to make it out to the next one. Will try to get the chika let me tow it out with her truck. haha!
