So... The D3 show has been cancelled for this year. The Karls show has been gone for 2 years.. and now karls in mesa is closing as of friday. Now I get word the copperstate show has been cancelled.

WE AS A CLUB need to step up and put something together. I know we can get support from several local shops and vendors, as well as VW clubs ( I have already talked to some). This would be some work, but it needs to be done.

I had heard rumors of issues with Wolfsberg Registry (the folks who put on Copperstate)

And I'm in!! Let's get the ball rolling on this ASAP!

i agree. unfortunately the copperstate show has declined. i had noticed at past shows lots of issues and also noticed that less and less people were coming. i ultimately agree that as a club we should step up and do something. i'm absolutely on board to help get the ball rolling on this.

Wow- I didn't realize the Karl's thing hadn't happened in two years (I was away working most of the last year), nor did I know they were closing the Mesa location. I was there last week and the shelves looked bare- I asked what was up but the guy wouldn't say anything...

I'm not in a position to commit much time unfortunately, but I think it'd be awesome if we put something together. Locations are tough to come up with, but I've been to some neat events at the park at Falcon Field Airport in Mesa- might be an option. Playground and verandas, other things to look at (neat-o airplanes), fair amount of parking...

Just a thought...

What about like CGCC? tons of parking, right off a free way. I go there, and could talk to the campus security about setting something up..

Please ask what it would take to do the show there. What are the cross roads?

I am also going to check on GCC in Glendale. They have something there almost every weekend.

Yes, Chandler gilbert community is on gilbert and Pecos, less than a mile north of the loop 202.. so free way is close, it's a giant parking lot.. are we talking all VW's? and what dates? The more of a plan I hit them with, the better answer I'm sure I'll receive.. What if we did it on Sunday Febuary 6th, at like 730 AM? I know if we get flyers out, we can get lots of cars... I also know all of my DVB club would go( Frenchy is resurecting it from the 80's, and he asked me and my uncle to join... We've got about 8 cars in the club..) That way we have enough time to plan, get publicity, and what not, and it'll also be nice weather. ?? shoot me back some opinions... I'm here til 9 PM tonight, and all day tomorrow...

Im looking in to a few spots. GCC will cost big$$$ plus you need to get a insurance for the show. and GCC and most venue need six month notice. and we need porta toilets. I think it ran $2500 to $3000 for volksfest

I was figuring it to be about $2500 to do the show. BUT we will get the money back a few ways. Sponsorship and selling swap meet spaces and car show entry.

Scott or Kim, give me a call when you get a chance.

The privately-owned venues are probably going to cost the most. If we find a spot where a group of local merchants, etc. will benefit from the attendance, we stand the best chance.

Are the other clubs in such disarray that we couldn't start a valley-wide or state-wide VW Club Association, and have one big event? Sharing the VW experience and making it pay for itself would be the ultimate objective, no? (as opposed to making a profit- unrealistic expectation from this sort of event in this economy, IMHO)
