I am getting ready to take the body off the pan on my 1970 bug. I have stripped the interior, removed the fenders and bumpers. Removed the gas tank and engine. I have never taken the body off before and was wondering if there are any tricks or if anyone has any helpful hints.

Thanks
Ken

Well with what you have done your half way there. Just remove all the bolts from the body to pan under each side ( I think there is 11 on each side), there are 4 bolts inder the back seat area, 2 bolts in the front under the gas tank that fasten the body to the beam, remove the bolts to the steering coupler, and then there is one bolt on each side in the back that bolts the rear of the body to the upper chock towers. After that it should be ready to separate. Just lift it slowly to make sure you dont rip any wires or stuff like that. If you forget a bolt, you will know real quick.

I saw a couple other posts where it looks like people have put in some sort of cross brace that runs from side to side right behind the doors. Is this necessary? I have also seen other posts where the bracing wasn't used. Will my body flare out at the bottom if this isn't used?

If your heater channels are rotted away bracing is a good idea but if that is the case the body already may be twisted. Sound bodies do not need it.

Thanks. It looks like someone put new heater channels in recently so it sounds like I should be good.

I have large quantities of PB Blaster. My garage and part of my house smell like PB.

Body is off.

I will start a thread with pics. First thing I have to do is upload the pics to photobucket then I can post them here.
