well, he picked up the rail today, get started on the engine hopefuly on saturday. I spent what seems like a small fortune, but given that there are no problems inside the cyclinders (think its ok) and my heads are fine, I now have everything I need to get my baja together, including a new rear bumper. I started working on my rims last night and got the back two finished, tomorrow Ill tackle the front rims and maybe get the new tires, pack the wheel bearings and check the brakes! The goal is to have this thing on the road in time for the west side meet on the 9th!!

OK so is there anyone here that would be willing to help me with the ignition wiring??? Eric has a crazy work schedule the next couple weeks and I have no idea where the wires go. Its the stock harness, butt after 44 years, the colors of the wires are faded like crazy, so I couldnt even match them up to the stock wiring diagram. I would really appreciate the help, the car turns over good (jumping the starter), I am getting fuel and oil, just no spark. I am hoping to get this car going as soon as possible! Thanks for any help you all can give me!

Chris

Do you have an VW books? If the wireing is that far gone just redo it. it's not that hard.

You have heard of hot wireing a car...?

Coil + side to Battery (Do not leave hooked up with out car running, Bad things)
Coil - side to points wire coming out of distributer.

Next if the car starts and runs splice in a switch/key and fuse etc. into the hot wire from the battery to the + side of the coil.

Colors: Hot wires use reds, oranges and yellows. grounds use black, greens and browns

WOW!!! IT RUNS!!!! Eric (dirtjunkie) and I got it running today!! What would have taken me hours to figure out, he did in 20 min... We had to change a few connectors, but we got it running quite well!!! Dummy me hooked up the plug wires in the wrong order and forgot (I set #1 in the right place and stuck the wires in the distributor 1234 so that it would be easy to identify them when I learned the firing order). After we realized that Im an idiot, problem solved, the car started up fairly quick!! We didnt really have a lot of time, but the timing is pretty much set, I just have to tune the carb a little for a proper idle. Other than that, I have to replace all the brake cylinders/shoes, install a windshield and rear window, front seats and mount the bumpers and hood! Very Happy I cant believe it sounded as good as it did! The crank case has been sitting since 1985 untouched (but covered). All we really did was add chrome, new fuel pump, upgraded the ignition and installed it in the car!!! Unbelievable!!! Thanks again Eric!! Below should be the link to the video of it running (untuned). Keep in mind the sound is a little crappy due to the fact I only used a cell, but youll see Eric playing a little with the carb and distributor, too bad we both had stuff to do or this thing would have been running great!

woohoo!! Im so happy!! The big thing was not knowing if it was going to run let alone blow up when it did!, By not having to tear it down, I save $500!! I was expecting the worse and hoping for the best and for the time being it looks like the best has happened! It seems to run very solid!
