how much of a beating can a baja bug take? i've had mine out only about 2 or 3 times now and it seems to be holding up really well through all the rocks and whoops i hit. even hit a whoop section in third until the back started bouncing up a bit too high Laughing what are the usual things to break? front suspension parts? my front end looks to be somewhat weak

depends man of what you got into the car
my old baja was built to the hilt and was a great car
the only major thing i replaced was the clutch and that was 4.5 straight hrs of mud boggin
so it all depends
take it easy on it at first then go from there
but they can take a beatin when properly made right

Like jonesy said depends on how it is built. Even stock parts can take quite a romp.

I seem to remember you have a pretty nice roll cage and 3x3's right?

My buddy jumps his bone stock super beetle every time we go out to the desert and he hasn't broken anything yet besides the cheapy EMPI cv joints he had on there, Lobros fixed that problem though Cool

yeah i have a full roll cage and what i believe are boxed in 3x3's in the rear (installed by PO so i'm not sure) i think something is tweaked in the rear though. major camber in left wheel and not the right. thinking its a bent trailing arm but i really need to get it checked out. other than that everything is basically stock

Mine's pretty stock and I beat the snot out of it. If I'm out on a long trip or alone, I'm nicer to it. I carry a good selection of spare parts and a full toolbox even when not off-road.

Complete axle with CV's
Distributor
Coil
Tire
Spark plug and wire
Fuel filter
2 lower torsion arms with BJ's installed
Clutch and throttle cable

I won't list the tools...I'm too lazy!

As long as you don't blow your engine or transaxle, that should get you home.

I also check everything after every trip. Make sure the bolts on your suspension are torqued, BJ's and CV's good, engine in tune, transaxle full of fluid, wiring good, etc...

I've had good luck so far.
