This is my feeble attempt at posting the GPS track of the 5/16/2010 ride at The Rolls.

Mark 001 is where we entered at Pobrecito Waiting Area. I screwed up so Mark 13 1863 should just be Mark 002. You can follow our path east and then south down to Mark 006 which is at Cove 1.
From there we exited out of the area, after a nice hill climb between 007 and 008 for some of us and getting stuck in sand for some of us, exiting out Butcher Jones.
We then went up the Bush Highway crossing Beeline entering Sycamore Creek where the GPS track ends and our lunch began.
I measured the off road part at 19.5 miles from the time we entered at Pobrecito until we exited at Butcher Jones.

If Preston will post up the map he handed out then between his map and my GPS track it will be apparent where we went and it may help someone who hasn't been out there before.

WOW cool stuff Chickenpants, here's that map:

We started on Trail 13, then went around and connected to trail 1813 then onto trail 1830 in to Cove 1, after that we backtracked a bit, then decided to turn around and head out the Butchar Jones entrance and followed Perri as he led us to the Sycamore OHV area for some hot dogs and chips supplied by good ole Chickenpants Cool

Right now I am using a Garmin Etrex Vista GPS. I am going to transition to a Garmin Nuvi at some point. The Etrex Vista is slow and small as it is meant more for hiking. I think that the Nuvi had the capability to load a route and then follow it, my Etrex doesn't support routes.

The software is a neat deal. You can get the Garmin software free for your PC if you follow the steps exactly as outlined here:
www.gpsfiledepot.com/t...-your-gps/

The Arizona Topo Map is available free here:
www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/1
The map is free but I did a $10 PayPal donation because that is a fraction of the maps' commercial value.

You can load the software and then the maps and you will be able to see where you can ride around Az in great detail on your computer. You can always pick up a new/near new Garmin on Craigslist for under $150 later.

I've always had to rely, maybe too much, on a GPS when boating, flying, and now off roading as I have a real problem with spacial relationships. Even something as simple as coming into a familiar area from an unfamiliar direction can mess me up.

give it a try and let me know how it works for you.
