hello everyone. im new to the baja world and not sure really where to start or aquire parts to finish my bug. i have a 66 pan with a 74 shell i traded my cousin for some parts. it has a streched front end, IRS suspention, and a rhino tranny. all i really need is a motor for it, im 26 and on a budget so any help will be appiciated. thanks

actually does anyone have any suggestions on what motor to use for a newby like me, my cousin says a 1600 dual port is a perfect begginer motor

For a start a 1600 would be fine. Get used to the car, get things sorted out with it and then look to ge bigger on the engine.

Define cheap. Super cheap gets you junked cases with beat out mains. Since you are in So Cal, go to Pomona swap meet. Otherwise craigslist.

so i think i might have found an engine. i went to take a look at it, but i dont anything about bug enines. the guy says its a german 1900 and it seems to be all there just torn apart, he also said it is blown up but the crank looks to be in good shape. he only wants $250 for it. can any one help me out with identify the engine and if its worth rebuilding

A core engine here goes for 100-150. There was never an oem 1900. I'd offer less and see if you can take the case to a BAP or VW shop for inspection of the mains. Align boring, cleaning, opening up for larger bore and full flow, think about 250-300 for machining.
