Howdy folks...been awhile. Hope all is well. I joined this fine group 'bout three years ago, but between some career changes and getting the youngest into college, well...you know...
But I digress...
The 58' Rag has been basically a hoodride...took off the aftermarket bumpers, lowered the front (with three sacks of Quickcrete in the bow)...(yep, I know, cue the banjo...) and primered the odd little bodywork I accomplished, i.e. "patina". Oh, and drove it all over town. Yea!
Time to Baja!!! I'm planning on a mild military/Rubicon look. I've already started and will post pics. Got the running boards off (I'm going to make my own side/brush bars that will accomodate one jerry can per side...I believe that is the standard field ration of bloody mary mix for a weekend recon. I've also got the rear fenders marked, pulled and ready to cut.
It's good to be back! I've got motor and tranny questions coming up, so be warned!

Thanks ahead of time guys....Roy
ps....whooo doggee!

Thanks guys...hey Lucky, what part of Michigan. I've camped Ludington and Newaygo (sp?) before, & the U.P. It's a beautiful state.

Is there a tutorial on pic posting around here? I'm probably not looking in the right spot.

Roy

Whoops! Just found a post that describes the posting thing...nevermind! Oh, by the way, my engine tin is making me crazy. Hopefully I'm firing up the forge tomorrow and starting the brush bars. Got the Coors chillin'...so I stay hydrated of course...safety first y'know...

Roy,
We have a place in St. Helen (near Holton Lake)... About 75 miles Northeast of Ludington...
Lots of, and some of the best trails in the state...
A lot of 4 wheelers, Bikes, Rails, Buggies and quite a few Baja's too...

Also, quite of few good Hotels and places to camp...

I think there are some plans coming together for a Dune Buggy get together / trail ride next summer...
We missed the one this year... So Sad

Take that Quick Crete out of the front and crank up that suspension for some ground clearance and get that VW where it belongs...
Off Road... Wink

What size motor are you running?

I'm just getting started, so I still have the original egg beater in it...I take that back, I checked the number and it's a 59 motor. I'm yankin' it and just planning on a 1600cc for now...I basically want to get her 12v and bus trannied then kinda beef up in chunks, as the budget allows.

Sounds great where your at...not much in the way of trails around here...but we camp all over so the bug will be the recon vehicle...

Roy
