Hi guys
I have other questions for you.
My '96 bug should be F.I but it doesn't have it. I have a 34 PICT-3 carb. At the moment the acceleration is not great and a little lumpy. Is this carb ok running on a F.I model. Also I have 2 timing marks on the pully? I have tried to set the timing but if I aline the right hand of the 2, it doesn't sound good so at the moment it is just to the left of the seam on the block.
I have also just had some major work done (motor out, pulled apart and new push rods fitted) The mechanic here has told me that the pistons are different on F.I models, I am now totally confused. Should I invest in F.I or can I change the carb for a more friendly one for F.I
Hope you can help me.
Regards
Andrew

the best thing you can possibly do is get a new carb. they are only $120 at most, and the difference is night and day. you also need the book called "how to keep your volkswagen alive" the book is a MUST HAVE for begginers. read that book 10 times(I probably read it 80 or more times).

the motor did not need to be pulled to do push rods. you either need to start working on it yourself or just buy a newer car, cause a bug and a mechanic= big bucks.

I don't think the pistons are different, it wouldn't make much sense would it? the heads may be different for the injectors but that would probably be it. the cases are a little different but it shouldn't affect it much. just get the new carb and the book.

you need to know what distributer and pulley you have to time that thing. since it was FI before you never know what they changed when they did the carby swap.

google search "vw bug distributer differences" or something like that. searching on the WWW and the book makes it alot easier than guessin.

why post if you dont know?? Question Idea Evil or Very Mad

Thanks for the advice. I'll try and get the book and more info on the bug. As you can see I live in Mexico, so everything is that much harder.
