I bought a donor body for $75 with doors and glass. So far I've cut the body and front bulkhead and started the chassis fabrication. I'm planning on building a custom a-arm long travel chassis with a one piece fiberglass front end. I want to keep as much of the steel bodywork intact so that it will be more VW and less fiberglass bodywork that is made to resemble a VW. The drivetrain will consist of a Subaru EG33 and an 091 bus tranny with 33" tires on all four corners. Here's the work I've done so far...

I have years of experience in high end tube fabrication and TIG welding, but this will be my first attempt at building my own, complete off road car so I am open to suggestions and feedback.

1 spy a Green 914, We Stuck a Mazda 13B in our 914 it had the slope nose front (no pop up hood blinkers on the front fenders) with the long slope sail plane/ "C" or "B" pillers behind the cockpit. With a cool duck tail spoiler. Car looked sleek and fast like a bullet. Took the box look out of the 914.

Do you already have a computer and harness for this build? I am doing the same thing putting a EG33 in my sand rail. I am running into problems with the wiring harness. I cant find anyone to do the wiring harness. Can you help..

I did it when I put an EG33 into an early 911. It was a pain in the ass. If I had it to do over again, I would just send a stock harness to Small Car Performance and have them modify it.

Here are some pictures of the most recent progress. I decided to go with some more power and a more reliable transaxle. Still more x-bracing to do...
