So, yesterday my buddy went mudding alone in his 4x4 Nissan. He was at about 10000' when he encountered a patch of snow at the top of the pass, tried to go around it but instead nearly went off the side of the mountain in slippery mud. Luckily there were some people camped just down the road who were able to pull him out. We had bbq and beers after, during which we all made fun of him for going out alone.

Did I learn anything? No.

This morning I was just itching to mud in the Baja, didn't feel like hassling anyone else to join me. I went to a place about 5 miles from my house, figuring if anything went wrong I could walk home and get my truck. Well, it was thick, slippery damn mud. I was going through some 100 ft. "whoops" and nearly got stuck at the bottom of one, but was able to mash the pedal and make it out.

Being alone, I decided to turn around. Nearly went into the ditch at the bottom going sideways but managed to correct it and pulled through. Butt fully puckered. It would have been a nightmare to recover, luckily I'm pretty much home free at this point and decide to take it home.

Get about a mile from home and the engine totally dies. It's not hot, it'll crank, just won't fire. I finally swapped to my spare 009 and she goes, guess the points replacement fried? I always carry parts and tools.

Anyway, got her home after all that, but I was stupid today, and now I'm having a noon beer, damnit! I need it.

Think I'll go out later on my bike and get some pics of the road. It's gnarly.

Kyle

So I did one smart thing today and skipped the beer, hopped on the bike instead and took some pics of the road.

A shot of the hill from the opposite end of the whoop. My bike's at the top for some scale, my tire tracks where I started to slide back and sideways near the top on the right:

Mudhole at the bottom:

Ended up doing about 75 miles on the bike since I didn't want to fix the Baja. Smile

Just a little update:

I swapped distributors back today and it fired right up. Only thing I can figure is that maybe the distributor slipped with that cheesy clamp I have and the timing was off too far to fire. The reason this comes to mind is that it was running sluggishly that day (probably why I couldn't make the hill, lol) which could be a sign of off-timing. Either way, I'm not gonna worry about it, but I am gonna "upgrade" to a stock clamp.

Kyle
