sorry perrib what your saying is prolly right and ill prolly regret it but i just sold all my fi parts for $185
i need the money..

so sometime this week im going to go get a good running 1600cc sp.
and then im going to get a complete polyurethane kit and urethane trans mounts form jc whitney.

and my money is gone lol

ill post some pics of the car as it sits now and a few parts i just got for my birthday.

WAIT WIAT
why would you buy a sing port?
just asking
if you got a 1600cc dp it wont let you down and they are really good reliable motors

What is so unreliable about a VW single port engine?

i really wanted a dual port but here was my options:

$250 good running 1600cc sp (just down the road from me)
$300 non running 1600cc dp, i had to go pull it myself, no idea what condition it was in and it was a 2 hour drive.

an dthe promised pictures of my patches...

now i must say that this is the first time that i have ever welded and that i was still figuring it out while i was working on the front, by the time i got to the back i had got the hang of it.

there not pretty but it wont fall apart.
(btw i was just sandblasting so thats why all the sand is there)

[img][/img]

[img][/img]

[img][/img]

[img][/img]

[img][/img]

[img][/img]

[img][/img]

[img][/img]

[img][/img]

i didnt have the power turned up enough when i was doing the bottom plates so the welds under there are REALLY rough.
im gonna take a hammer and chisel and see if i can brake any of them loose just so i know its solid.

Welding upside down takes practice. When in doubt just grind them down and reweld. I won't tell.

Yu know, that thing is (was) so rusty, I wouldn't have even bought it to begin with, but I must admit I'm very impressed by your ambission and hard work to get it fixed, and you're doing very good at it so far. That was an impressive rust repair.

?? no need for it why not??

well as of right now its like a 98% road car, theres not much place around here to trail ride or mud.
people usually put cages in because unlike me there having fun and driving on dangerous places or just driving dangerously Very Happy
and since im just being boring and cruzing on the road im not really risking tipping or rolling.

but i may end up putting it in anyway because im going to put in a ford zetec or 2.3 pinto engine next summer and i need the cage to brace off of for the engine supports.....we shall see but most likely the cage will go in after all.

heres a few more pics of my engine

the other head is prety good but this one is really torn up.
i think im going to try and port and polish it like they say on cal-look.com

www.cal-look.com/tech_...ting.shtml

[img][/img]
[img][/img]

do yall think i should get new pistons? or just clean these up and use them?

im thinking of buying the 1650cc rebuild kit from jc whitney

www.jcwhitney.com/Engi..._10110.jcw

is there a whole lot of difference between 1600 and 1650 ?
