heres how i was hoping to patch the frame head.

just smash down or cut out the metal all the way to the gray line and then weld a big patch on the bottom, purple line.
and on the top i would do some what of the same thing

perfect idea man
just do that and your good to go.
it is a baja so it is not going to be a show car
that would be a perfect idea same with some of the other rust spots
just make sure they are water proof and make sure you bedliner the pan before you install the body so you dont get more rust
also you could use that baja body if you didnt want to use the bug body cause of the rust
if the baja body is in better shap that is what i would do
just my .02

well i spent some time with my sawzall and grinder and got a few things worked out i think.

heres a pic of my chassis

[img][/img]

i got the arm support piece cut to length.

[img][/img]

what do yall think??

on the frame head.
[img][/img]
[img][/img]

heres part of the patch. its a 1/8" think piece so it will be twice as thick as the original piece.
[img][/img]

i think im going to use a piece of angle iron and some more of the 1/8" steel and fabricate some thing on the top.

the other side im just going to do the same thing as the other side on it.

[img][/img]
[img][/img]

btw heres my sandblaster it should work fine but it might take a while, i cant wait to use it, my chassis will look SOOO much better with all the rust, glue and dirt off it.

i got a little more work done, degreased and power washed the chassis off, and did a little work on the body, mainly just cutting out a little rusted metal and looking at what im gettin into.

it cleaned up really good.

[img][/img]
[img][/img]

i washed like 1/2" of dirt and grease off my tranny so now i can actually tell what color it is.

[img][/img]

on the inside im not sure what im going to do, theres so much gone from the main structural parts that bolt to the chassis.

i have to cut out a little more metal to get rid of the rust and get down to clean metal so the holes will end up even bigger than they are now.

[img][/img]

any help would be apprieciated..

i found a place to get sand for sandblasting so im going to try to get some on monday and then i can sandblast the chassis.

How's it coming vindeta? If you pull this off, I'll be inspired to do the "restoration" of my '75. No kidding, I'm pulling for you, bro!

i havent gotten a whole lot done for a while, i was gone at scout camp last week and im still trying to catch up.....but i have all the metal cut and right now im just waiting to weld it all together.

[img][/img]

[img][/img]

[img][/img]

[img][/img]

[img][/img]

[img][/img]

it looks a little rough right now but i think it will work, theres a guy that i know that fixes wrecked cars for a living and this is how he suggested i do it so im fairly confident it will work.

the piece's on the bottom are 1/8" thick and the rest of the steel is 16 guage.

i drilled the pans for all the spot welds i did 3/16" holes every 1 1/2"

havnt updated in a while but i got everything welded in but i set the body back on it to test the fit and i havnt taken it back off yet to take pics of the welded areas.

ive been cutting alot out of the body itself to get rid of all the rust ill post pics of that too.

in just a couple of days here i will be getting a running 1600sp running engine for around $250.
im also getting a complete urethane bushing kit, 7" lights, truck bed liner and rustolem rusty metal primer so i will be done with the chassis soon.

cant wait to have everything painted up and clean.

Good deal, keep it up! You've honestly inspired me to tackle my rustbucket once I finish my current project.

Nice work. I noticed you had a lot of the FI parts. Save those when the economy comes around and the late model converibles start getting restored again the parts will have value.
