Thanks Preston. Hopefully I can get them mounted in the car this weekend. Yeah, the Kidz Seatz were kind of an after thought, but I think they are going to work great. Was planning to do a bench, but this seemed like a better way to go.

Wow this thing is just amazing and im sure you never get tired of hearing that. i like the way you did the shock mounts in the rear also i was wondering if you could take some more pictures of that rear frame under the car. I am interested to see how it mounts. Smile

Had a day off today, so tried to spend some time on the car. Did some work on trying to finish the 3" body lift for the front and back. got all the pieces welded together, now just need to get them put in and get the body anchored down. JumpinBruceB, I'll get some pics for you. I assume that you are refering to the red piece that is just above the trans. It anchors on either end to the upper shock mount at the body attachment point. It then bolts through the body to then inner cage. I'll get some pics in a couple days.

JumpinBruceB, I finally got some pics of the frame you were asking about. The first shows how I attached them at the ends to the original body mounting locations to make up for the 3" body lift on the rest of the car.

The next one shows how the frame piece goes up and over the trans and bolts through the under side of the body and into the silver frame piece that the upper shock mounts are attached to.

The four bolts that are in the above pic are the same as the bolt heads in the bolts below.

The last pic shows how the roll cage on the inside of the car sweeps back and ties into the silver frame.

This is kind of my own design that I put together with a lot of sitting in the garage staring at the car. I'm curious as to any other thoughts anyone may have about the design. Keep in mind that I still have several more pieces to add to the roll cage that will finish everything. I also plan to attach the back part of the silver cage to the upper attachment points of the trans as well as the limit straps for the suspension.

Finally got the framework put together for the seatz. The fronts were not really a problem, but the rears took me a while to figure out the best way to get them mounted. Here is what I came up with.

Then I got the rear fenders cut out and put in place. Still need to weld them. Kind of "borrowed" the fender design from Bugzyla. I really liked how his looked on the Fasty.

So far so good. Interior is pretty tight, so have to take my time. That seems to be one of the biggest challenges with this build. The ghias just don't have the room inside that the bugs do. Seatz do look great though don't they.

Is the suspension something you completely fabbed up yourself?

This is an awesome project and is something I have been wanting to do on my 70' but haven't been able to really find any info on anyone ever doing one.

I need to learn more about baja's in general but am excited to get started especially after seeing this!

Yes and no on the suspension, SLOryder. The front is all purchased products mounted into the framework, then the back is regular 3x3 trailing arms and then fabricated upper mounts. Thanks for the compliments. It's been fun to do, but pretty challenging at times as well, mostly for the reason you mentioned, there just aren't many out there to get ideas from, but that's also what makes it cool.

Guess I'm a little behind in updating the build. It's been a busy couple of months so garage time has been hard to come by. Been doing some body work. The base of the front window pillars had considarable damage, so I had to weld in a new plate and bondo in the area.

Much better but not quite done.

Also got the headlight buckets cut out of the front end. Since I am making it street legal, decided that I would try the basic "Baja Headlight" buckets for street use, then I have some Hellas and Lazer Stars for offroad.

My fuel cell arrived last week, so fabbed some mounts for it in the front. Still have to make the straps and anchors for it, but you get the idea.

Last night I also tacked in the cross bar below the dash, so had to try out the fit for the steering mounts, then decided now was a good time to see what all the gages look like. The six gages are, Speedo, Volts, Fuel, Tach, Water Temp, and Oil Press. I thought the little Tach was kind of cool. All are AutoMeter.

I did have one moment of disappointment last night. While getting all the steering in place I finally realized that I just do not have room for the back seat. I am 6'-1" most of which is leg, so I need all the room I can get. I have one other idea, but it looks like I will not be able to use the Jr. Seatz. Will see. I have a set of pedals coming soon, and will be focused on getting the welding done and the rest of the front framework done so I can get it to the powder coater.

Did a few little things yesterday. Got the rest of the bolts for bolting the body to the pan. Had a couple missing that had the threads maessed up. I also got the "back seat" thing figured out. Having the back seat really was something I wanted to have even though I knew it would be a tight fit. I jumped the gun I guess on getting the Jr. seatz, but it sure did look like they would fit, but at the end of the day, maybe I can use them on the sandrail, which would work fine since the fiberglass seat in the back of the sandrail is what will work in the Ghia. Now I just need Scott to make me a cover for the fiberglass bench to match the front seats and we're good. Gained about 8" of space for the front seat which is needed for leg room for me. So spent a good part of the day reworking the frame. Better now than later, right?
