My car is sitting peacefully in my dads garage down the street. Its used for storage when its there.

Need to adjust the valves, and change the oil and adjust the brakes. Still have drums.

I just priced out power steering, and i was so tempted to get it. The jobless thing is holding me back now.

things i want to do are start sanding it and getting ready for paint. I have a few holes i need weld up. My next big trip is thanksgiving weekend, when i will have turkey in the desert.

They are a couple of very long term projects from the family plot. The primer red one was a full body prerunner on a T Mag body lift. that the q/p windows had been filled in and had an aftermarket sun roof. The glove box was full of plaques from the races it preran. When I bought it the guy kept the glove box. I removed the metal from the 1/4 panel windows. It was to much like a cave after I filled in the roof. I turned it into a Baja and installed a bus fuel tank where the rear seat would go.

I was getting into drag racing so this one went to pasture, then a baby came along. The goal was and still is to install the parts I accumulated, including a 2.1 waterboxer/ transaxle and have heat, ac and ps. It is probably 2-3 years away from getting into the shop again.

The white one I bought as an autostick Baja for $200.00. It immediately was converted to a 4 speed. I installed a pair of used Deist seat belts.

It stayed for a couple of months like this as I explored every trail at Sycamore Creek and McDowell Mountain Park and a couple of trips to Flagstaff. Next I installed 30x10.50 BFGs. The 1600 became woefully inadequate. An 1835 with dual carbs (a major mistake) found its way into the Baja. Fun on the street but after trip to Sycamore it was an obvious wrong choice had been made. Then I built the 1835 I still have today. Weber VZ 15 style cam and a single DCNF carb. The carb was later swapped for a Deano intake and Zenith carb. First three trips to Sycamore consumed 3 CVs. At the Bugorama for $40.00 I bought an old Datsun axle set up for a T-2 transaxle. I installed a used 3 rib T-2 transaxle and the Datsun axles. Problem solved. I did try a 1776 with an Engle 130 cam and a single 40 Weber carb. It was a lot of fun climbing hills. One day after off roading from Queen Valley to Superior it got stuck in fourth. I fixed the transaxle and put the 1835 back. One Saturday at Sycamore it rolled.

I took it back to Sycamore that Sunday for one last ride.
I bought this for the cage.

I replaced the body, bought Jack Woods 10"x1" rear trailing arms, made the rear torsion housing 10" wider and lengthened the front end four inches and installed a link pin frame head. By this time I had to move and more of my time was being consumed by this:

So unfinished it got put in the family plot. Eventually the dragster got put in the family plot. Last year the dragster found a new home. Unless you have a Bug full of spare cash dragsters are more fun to watch than race. The white Baja will have to wait at least as long as the primered one to get finished. A bright note is a friend and I are working on 6"x2" front trailing arms for it.
Also in the family plot: a Meyers Tow'd and a in the planning stage drag/rat/custom VW bug. So many VWs so little time!

Dudes-
I ended up having to replace the front beam on my Bug. I pulled it apart to replace the ball joints and also gusset the towers and weld the seams. Then discovered it was bent. So I got one from Joe Chirco with adjusters welded in then modified it instead. I fabbed up some spindle arm gussets and welded them in. Now I'm cleaning and repairing the front bumper/tire holder/hood-hinge assy. Next will be fabbing and welding brackets to mount the bumper to the new beam. New tie-rods will be reinforced, brake plates cleaned and steering box gone thru. Then the front wiring is next. All of this to me is just shitty un-fun labor, so I'm just not that motivated after wrenching on motorbikes all day! Plus my time is divvied up between the Bug and my race-bike maintenance.
When I get the pics out of my phone I will post for sure.
