That is nothing compared to the 100 plus pounds of sand you are going to get out of the heater channels and body cavities. I just use sand and a pressurized sandblaster. Pro Strip in Mesa 480-380-0489 has done a lot of VW shells and pans. A lot of street rodders and restorers also use him. I know people from Globe and Showlow who bring cars to him. I plan on using him for my 1964 Beetle. I had Odies sand blast a 54 Ford PU body. Paying someone may be a better option if you do not have a big air compressor.

Tell me about it perrib!
I blasted most of the trunk area before I discovered the need to replace a heater channel. I noticed it all down the inside rear front fender wells through the bolts for the doors. I spent a couple hours with a good shop vac getting most of that stuff out. Only to find out how much was left when I pulled the bad heater channel, plus other areas I won't mention. YIKES!

Fortunately I just need to blast the doors now and they're off the body. I should be able to contain the mess fairly well.

I have a decent compressor, good enough for constant use for what I do.

I've got my Baja stripped & ready to blast. A to Z Equipment Rental says they rent compressor (big deisel sucker on trailer), blaspot & hood for $160/day. Have to buy the sand @ Marvel (right down the street). Perrib, got any idea what Pro Strip carges for a pan & body (already seperated, but could screw a few bolts back in for towing)? I'm not exactly looking forward to the mess it's gonna make in my back yard!

Give him a call. I would think between $500-$1000. When you use the rental blaster you will have to turn down the pressure as low as you can and still push sand. Don't get close to the body. Its probably set for sand blasting block and brick and will make a big dent in the sheet metal. You will need 10-15 sacks of sand. Make sure and wear a very good respirator.

Thanks perrib. Your guesstimate was good, I called and he estimated around $650. I also called Soda Blast Kings and he estimated 4 - 5 hrs @ $110. And he comes to me! He also had a lot of info on inexpensive paint & prep.

Well folks, it works.
I've been running it over some pretty rusted doors and it's clearing the rust away. Cool
Problem is keeping odd sized/shaped areas wet until the rust is gone.
I tried using a pump from a desktop water feature but it doesn't have enough umph to pump to the top of the doors. I'll have to look for a better pump.

Home Depot, Lowes, Harbor Frieght, good places for pumps.

after seeing the slideshow on the site, I'M SOLD! definately going to be getting a gallon of this stuff!
