I noticed there are not that many shocks for the ball joint front.

Same boat. I got an idea though. Jeep cherokees have that SAME stupid upper shock mounts. Well this company something that makes it run normal shocks.

The only problem I am seeing with that is that you lose a couple of inches of shock. May limit the travel!! But still thats a great idea!!

It says you loose 1.1" zx10.

It would be nice to run all the same shocks also, not stud shocks up front and different out back!

I used to use KYB GR-2's and they were great.

By looking at that picture, it looks like a Mickey Mouse solution. The stud looks too big for the top. I guess you'd drill the hole out bigger in your shock tower to make it work, but why shorten your travel? You want MORE travel than stock, not LESS.

.... Just my opinion...

Fox makes Class 11 reservoir shocks with 6.5" of travel. They are rather expensive, though, about $180 ea.

Those are nice,but for $180 ($360 front only) a pop I can get more stuff for the Baja.

Then the KYB bus shocks mentioned above.

Both of these are for cut and turned front ends.

I don't think having the same shock frt and rear is of any benefit. Most of the mid travel cars run 8-10 in frt and 12-16 in the rear. Nothing is interchangable frt and rear.

Would it be bad to run the Bilstein ^^^^ on a stock front (not cut and tuned)???

Basically what I am looking for is a good road ride since the car will be street legal and also good off road performance.

A friend of mine who has a street legal sand rail actually swaps shocks when he goes off roading (uses short king shocks). Then in the summer when he wants to drive the car on road he has to put in his road shocks (Tokico Illumina 5-way Adjustables).

They have a cheaper alternative, that shock is a entry level race quality.
Bilstein part # may be: B46-0620-H0 shows 5.49" travel as opposed to 6.65" travel with lighter valving.

Chirco's didn't show it on their site, but they may have it. Just tell Don the application. I found it on another site. Here is Bilstein's application guide:

The difference in travel is from the application: cut and turn the beam and run a longer shock gets you more ground clearance, sits higher, and more travel since the shock is longer (more room before it bottoms out)

Is it worth it? Depends on what you want. I personally don't like the look of a stock height Baja, so to me it was worth the money I have thrown at mine.

You could swap out your Type 1 arms and spindles and use Thing parts, instead. You would gain 3" in height plus not have to worry about the ball joint popping out of the lower arm. I also understand that Radflo (radflo.com) makes Class 11 shocks. I couldn't find any specs on their site, but read a thread on racedezert that mentioned these shocks.

Watch the classifieds, Samba, craigslist, junkyards etc. Some times hard to come by and not real cheap. If you want to keep a nice ride and get more lift, but no more travel; www.blindchickenracing.com makes lift spindles for ball joint front ends. Mark, aka crash comes around this site on occasion.

If I install the adjusters will that affect the ride quality??

Meaning by raising the front will make it stiffer and lowering make it softer?!?!?

from what i understand asdjusters dont change the spring rate just the angle of the arms (but i could be wrong)

Thats what I thought until I read this on Chirco : "These adjusters allow you to adjust the height of your car, as well as dialing in the ride. You can make it stiffer or softer with the turn of a wrench."

The spring rate doesn't actually change, but the angle of the trailing arms being closer to verticle rides a little stiffer than closer to horizontal. I hope that makes sense.
