I just saw this same part pictured on another forum- same discussion. One guy had a good reason he wouldn't go with that style of setup, but for the life of me I can't remember what the reason was.
I do know they weigh a fair amount though- I'd think they're quite a bit heavier than a CV setup.

those are pretty cool. i have heard that they can handle an angle of up to 45*, compared to the 23* of some 930s. correct me if im wrong.

Here's what a guy on another site had to say:
"I have read up on this a lot. If you are gong to just drive on streets or maybe drag race it is great. Many people do not like them on the offroad area. The problem is under power (more than a stock vw) the plunge can be very hard . If the plunge is restricted the pressure is placed on the side plates of the trans and or the pivot points on the trailing arms. Mounts brake and side plates brake.. If you have a low power engine ?? under 150 - 200 hp maybe this will not be an issue. On the other hand cheap axles may make the problem worse. I see people not likeing the 1600$ axles due to the plunges restrictions. Now some builders of the axles say it is all BS and your buggy or car is not set up right to take the pressure. It also seams that most if not all tranny builders will void any warranty if you use the u joint axles. There is a big thread on a site that I can't find. It was enough to keep me from buying. The only reason to buy is to max out the travel of the rear... It is cheaper to go with 5x5 rear arms and racing 930 or 934."
More discussion here on them-
Another thread's worth of interesting info
And still more...
Bear in mind that these guys are running HARD, and are running mucho HP in many cases. BUT, they're also running much more expensive axle setups than we're talking here. Is it worth the risk? I dunno...

Considering the source, that's good enough for me!
Excuse me while I go repack my nasty, greasy CV joints.

They look like Jeep front drivelines with altered flanges on the ends. I wouldn't even consider them unless I was driving a big horse V-8/Mendeola type buggy. Sheesh, talk about overkill!

A lot of guys talk about how they should be great for hi-HP applications- one even cites how the new 600 hp Corvette uses them. I think they're plenty stout for the power, but in the case of off-road use, the constant suspension articulation (in extreme amounts in many cases) is what kills the things. And comparing our use to the fact that they hold up well as high-HP front drive shafts in 4WDs isn't a very good comparison either...

I'm looking them for some time as my car just chews up CV boots all the time. I would split one about every 6 months. I used to drive my baja every day with High Angles in the CV's. Now I just run what I call grease and go CV's poke the grease gun in them greasem up and slid the other half of the CV boot back down the axle. Good to go, I have most well greased CV's ever. in fact you can look down and see them. Granted I do not off road much if at all any more so dirt and rocks is not to big of a problem...I hate CV's
