Is it possible to wire up a 3way toggle switch ( left< off >right ) to use as a turn signal and use the box... I was thinking you could run the brake lights as normal from the master cylinder but for the turn signal part would I need to wire in a flash for the turn signal part or does the box itself works as a flasher?

Here. I scratched this out for ya:

Don't get confused. It's really simple. Since the next logical question is going to be, "How do I get my Emergency lights to work, too?", I addressed this on the diagram as well.

We'll start at the top where the +12V ignition fed circuit is. You don't want your turn signals to work with the key off. If you're a dumb-ass like myself, you'll drive to work and leave your turn signal on all day and kill your battery. Find a 12V power source that shuts off when your key is off. Wire a 2-terminal flasher in line (get it at Pep Boys, #552 works fine), then run that wire to your toggle switch (or turn signal switch). Then it goes to the 3-2 taillight adapter via wiring diodes (skip the diodes if you don't want flashers... I'll get back to that in a minute). The outputs on the taillight adapter go to each turn/brake light. Before the adapter, you'll notice that there are splices in the wire to go to your front turn signals. This is so the front turn signal lights do no illuminate when you hit your brakes. Get it? OK. The brake light switch on your master cylinder supplies power to the 3-2 adapter, too.

OK, back to the hazard circuit. On a hazard circuit, you want to have constant power. The reason behind this is simple: Quite often if you're in a situation where you need your hazards, the engine might not be running (or even capable of running). Find a constant +12V source for this. Run it to your hazard switch, then to the second (lower) flasher, again a #552 works fine, and then to your 2-way wiring diodes, where it splices into the rest of your system.

The two-way diodes are available at any RV store or hitch shop locally. You can take this diagram to them and they'll know exactly what you're talking about. I can even get them for you if you want, as I work at an RV dealership. The two that I regularly use are made by Blue Ox or Roadmaster. A wiring diode, if you don't know already, basically works like a check valve in plumbing, only with electricity. Power can go in one way and out the other, but cannot go backwards. These 2-way diodes have two inputs and only one output.

I spent the time to do this for you guys, so I want to hear back when you get it installed. Cool?

Jeff

...and oman...

This will only work on a 12V system. You'll need to investigate switching that old dog over to 12VDC like the rest of the normal world is running... Sorry.

Well hope to have this done in the next week or 2 but hopefull the wiring will be done right and you wont be able to see any of it but the rewards of turn signals and a clean dash !! Thanks 57baja.. also can you order the 2way diodes from the same website as the converter box or does Autozone or Checkers sell them?

You've got to have a local hitch shop or RV dealer somewhere around you. Buy both the parts from them. Look in the phone book. You'll be much better off that way, and you'll get the right stuff. The Autozone/Pep Boys/Napa/local auto parts people aren't going to have a clue. If you do happen to find some sort of adapter, it will be vastly inferior product and you'll pay too much for it.

Trust me on this. You gotta trust me. I do this for a living.

If you want, you can call Niel's Motorhomes at 818-891-2166. Speak to Mario in Parts and tell him you know me and want to order the parts. He'll get you hooked up with the right parts at a fair price, and will ship the parts out to you from SoCal. Niel's is closed tomorrow (Friday) for inventory until about 4:00, but they're open Monday thru Friday normally from 8:30 to 5:30.

Yep. Those are the ones. Those are the Roadmaster diodes. They'll work great. I've never had a failure and installed literally hundreds of them.
