alright guys, i was watching a vw video on youtube called "rust in peace" and it reminded me of what my last vw bug went through. the bug i have now dosnt have much of a story, its been driven most of its life. my old 1963 however, has a different story. here it is:

the guy i bought it from found it in a junk yard rolled over ON ITS ROOF in 1975. after a quick look at it, he decided to roll it over. he rolled it over with no damage to the body(amazingly), after rolling it over he checked out the inside and found the keys, and the original title in the glove box. he then pulled it to his garage here in tribune kansas and after a small amount of tinkering and tuning, it started right up. after that he didnt do much to it, drove it back and forth to work for several years and not much els. after a while he moved to colorado. he replaced the 1200CC engine it had, to a 1600CC engine for more power because he was using it as his "mountain car" as he said. after a year or so of that, he moved to cali where he used it as his "cruiser". in 1987 he moved back to tribune kansas where it got into a fender bender, he parked it after that and it sat there untill i bought it in 2006.

heres where it sat for 19 years:

when i bought it the front brakes were completely locked up and corroded, it didnt start, and the gas tank was completely rusted out and the gas line was clogged with something. after rebuilding the brakes we hooked up a lawn mower gas tank to the engine, chained it to a pickup and tried to pull start it. it started up the first try, and i didnt even touch the engine before that!. to be honest, i thought i would have to replace the engine and starter. after we got it started we gave it a full tune up and started tinkering with the starter, after about half an hour of messing with it and digging the weeds out of it, the starter turned and it would start up every time. i cleaned it and it looked like new! we then replaced the gas tank with an original and found a piece of wood in the gas lines(blew it out with an air compressor).

after a few months of working on it, i had to sell it because my parents considered it "a waist of money"(i was 16 at the time). i miss it alot. working on that car was what made me love vw's so much.

so, whats your bugs story?
