I'm with you on that. Most every baja that I've ever seen with a 1 pc. front end has the fender cut completely out. I didn't like the idea of dirt and crap inside mine so I cut mine a bit differently than what everyone else does. I'll send pictures when the sun comes out again tomorrow.

James...

Here are a couple of pictures of the way I did it years ago. If you cut it just right, the fenderwells will mate up perfectly to the fiberglass and you'll keep the dirt to a minimum. I'm not sure if the 58+ fenderwells are the same as mine, but I would figure they'd be fairly close. The one thing I wish I had done is weld all the holes for the factory fenders shut and grind them down like I did with the chrome body panel moldings. Instead, I filled them with sealer. I guess it's not a big deal and I'll eventually fix it.

As far as cutting sheet sheet metal goes, I've never been that great at it. For some reason, tin spins, whether they are left cut, right cut, or straight cut never seem to work for me. I've used my Sawzall, and a jigsaw. I've also used a Dremel with a cutting bit. I've used die grinders, too.

Check this out, though:

Bad Dog Tools

A buddy of mine gve me one of these to use today and it was an ABSOLUTE DREAM!

This fits into a regular drill and makes cutting sheet metal very easy. I was cutting 16 gauge steel (pretty thick stuff) to make a wiring cover for under my hood. It worked great. Just put it into my drill and zipped right along my template.

I've got to get one of these soon! No more broken saw blades, and no more bent up sheet metal with snips. No more binding up or jumping off track with a die grinder. I was cutting sheet metal the other day and the sharp piece went right in one side of my finger and right out the other side. No more of that crap. I'm done.

I saw a similar one the other day on the net for about $50.

Hey 57baja,

That's a real nice looking Baja. Got anymore pics posted of it? And if so, where. If not, how about posting some.
