Make some brackets and back them with a pate and bolt them through the floorboard.

you CAN bolt them through the floor. stock bugs just have brackets that are welded to the pan. in a baja, i would not advise it, depending on how you plan to romp the bug... i would take the time to weld a bracket to the main tunnel and floor/cage.. that way it has more support.. just my .02 Smile

sry... just read up top that you dont have a cage, same concept though... plate on the bootom of the brackets to go to the floor, then another to the tunnel? kind of off to the side, just more support in case your seats decide to go airborne :] im not sure about bolting them to the floor. if you do, use plenty of caulk/ silicon to keep rust away... or if its going to be permanant you could weld em,,,, just be careful not to blow holes, some of the brazilian pans are super thin.

bolting them to the floorboard...there would be a chance of them getting sheered off, by rocks or something?

If you're going to run it that hard, get a cage and weld up some tubeing to bolt it to.

Here are some pics of a frame it is welded into the side of the body and it attaches to the seat belt holes in the tunnel. The seats will bolt to the frame and provides the height. The frame is notched out in the front for the e brake there are plates that will still bolt thru the floor but this is a very secure way of mounting without having a cage.

I got my seats at the junk yard out of a Ford Escort. The racks came out of a GMC Safari van. The racks fit perfect inside the stock VW seat racks so they are bolted through the VW racks and the floor. Welded flat bar onto the racks to mount the seats. Came out pretty good.
