Hi, guys, I'm Jeremy, I've been a member for a few months but I haven't made it back to the site in a while. Won't happen again, I promise. I have a 74 baja that I have built/ am building. Nothing too crazy, but a lot of fun. I enjoy reading the info on the site, some for its priceless information, some just for entertainment, you know. I do have a question if anyone has some advice for me. I am building an 1835 for my bug. It will have a mild cam, stock heads, I already have a merged collector header with a stinger, ya know pretty run of the mill stuff. Here's my question I am trying to decide between a weber progressive carb. or a single 40 or 44 IDF. It is a semi-daily driver sometimes so reliability is important, but I will take performance over fuel economy if those are deciding factors.
Thank You in advance.
Also, how do I post a pic?

I used to run a single webber 44 idf on my superbeetle and I was ALWAYS tuning it. I eventually ditched it and went back to stock. When I was using it I had a ton of power, until it fell out of tune again.

I've never used the progressive so I'm curious to know what others think about it.

Some people swear by Webers, saying they are easy to tune, but a lot of people get sick of them. Same thing with the progressives. A good idea in theory, but sometimes challenging to keep right. When I was trying to decide what carb(s) to go with, I called the cam manufacturer, explained everything to them and asked for advise on carbs. On my rather healthy 1915 I will go w/dual solex 40's from Scat. I can go with 40 IDF's for more top end but then deal with the tuning. Neutral

make sure to use the after market linkage for the dual kads.
the factory linkage is weak.

What would you all suggest for a single carb setup? I'm not fond of the duals, I ran them on my last baja, I could never keep them in tune. When I offroad, I really give the car a thrashing, non of this, easing over rocks and tiptowing down of dropoffs. If the pedal isn't down, and your not getting air, then your not really offroading.

Finally someone actually used duals and didn't like them. I always thought of running a large single, but a lot of people say duals are fine. Now I am torn all over again. Rolling Eyes
