new to bajas and cant figure out how to get into the core of the generator to change the brushes......1600cc
Welcome to AZ Bajas Ugg.
This question really belongs in the normal technical question section, but the brushes are accessible through the air vent outlet openings in the cylindrical body of the generator. They are near the pulley end of the generator. The brushes are held in place by the end of a watch-type spiral spring. You just hook the end of the spring and pull it straight outward and slide the brush out. The wire needs to be disconnected by taking the small screw out. DO NOT DROP THE SCREW INSIDE THE GENERATOR!!!! Installation is just the opposite of removal.

Im still quite new to the world of baja's and vw air-cooled engines in general. From what I have gathered from my research. I have a 74 Super Beetle, Baja. With a 1600 DP engine. It has a single carb, a webber progressive.

I started a post a week or so ago asking about blinkers. I fixed these problems and now just would like some additional knowledge.

The only gauge I have in the car is a speedo, it has the gas gauge built in it. It has 2 dummy lights, alt and oil.

I was wondering how do you know if the air cooled engine is overheating?

I think I adjusted the carb well enough so it's not lean. My exhaust gets quite hot (Air coming off of it is hot), while the shroud around the cylinder banks seems to stay cool enough. (Im guessing about 160) I didn't do the dipstick check, yet.

I hope there is a forum already in place for this.

What area you basing this criteria of 10" of travel on? Class 11 and Class 9 are required to use ball joint front beams with the only mods allowed being replacing the shocks with whatever will fit on the stock mounts and stops. They finish at a pretty high rate for offroad racers.

I'm picking up a 74 bug that I will be over time evolving into a baja bug. Is there anyone in the peoria area that might be of some help as to what I have and what might be the first projects. This will be a daily driver and will get small mods at first and then I will do larger builds on vacation days.

How's it goin' everyone! I'm new to AZBaja and also new to Everything VW. I grew up goin camping/hunting with my Dad and Grandfather and all their buddies has Baja bugs. So I got my first Baja bug last week. It's a 1970 and has a vw 1600 engine. Runs good, but i would like to find out the regular tune up procedure and where everything is located. Couple things i want to do with it like wire up the lights, replace shocks, and couple other little things. So if anyone can help it will be very much appreciated.

Welcome to AZ Baja!!! Ive only been a member here for 3 weeks and already have a baja thats CLOSE to finished, possibly running tomorrow. There is a lot of great info here and it has helped a lot in finding help on my car! Eric (dirtjunkie) has assisted me in everything so far and has been a HUGE help, including helping with the engine build. I would also be willing to help as this is just a real blast and I, as well as a lot of others on here would LOVE to have more people at the meets and on the rides!!

Would I be able to find shocks for my baja at autozone or pepboys? I'm just looking for some regular front end link pin shocks. Not sure if I can go to autozone and get them or would I have to go to a specialty shop like chirco or something? Any help is greatly appreciated!

You can get stock shocks there... Honestly though, the stock shocks are about $15 a piece, for $30 a piece, you can upgrade to a coil over stock mount shock at BAP. They are much better off road from what I have been told, if I wasnt changing everything on my suspension, I would change to those myself....

Hey y'all, I'm currently in the process of getting a 1965 Beetle that's already been converted to a Baja, but I won't know any of the specs till I can get it home and look at it. I've been raised around buggys my whole life, and started driving my grandfathers when I was 6. I've wanted to get ahold of a Beetle for a long time now and I'm stoked that I might get this one. I'll be back with some questions if and when I get it.

Dude, you live in Tucson, go to Chirco! For about $130 you can get adjustable coil-over shocks that work great for stock or baja. Talk to Joe, Don, or anyone else over there and they'll get you hooked up. Plus if you're a supporting member you get 10% with the AZBaja.com code. Go to this link www.chircoestore.com/c...gj0s6ggs62 if you want to check em out first.
