I welded lag bolts to the backside of the mounting plates so I don't need to use a wrench on the inside of the car to get the bumper off. the 4 bolts on the mount are also welded to a 1" plate on the inside of the car and fit between the ribs of the fire wall... so I don't smash the stock firewall ribs.

Dalton, thanks for the info. You may have explained this, but does the diamond plate transfer the force from being rear ended back into the chassis? Or is it strong and thick enough to take on a rear end impact? I ultimately want to tie back into something structural so the forces are transferred correctly and not coming through the fire wall. I'll study your pictures some more to wrap my head around it. Thanks everyone for the input so far.

Yes, empi #9507. I had one on my car for years without issue before switching to a bus trans. I now run the bug to bus version and it's doing just fine

yes... the diamond plate transfer the force from being rear ended back into the chassis it was thick enough... I built the bumper it to tow ... not to take an impact ... it seemed to do fine with no damage from being hit. if I get hit any harder it will start to do damage.... I think.. I did not build in a weak link for an impact... If I need to re-do the bumper I might build a weak link to save the body from damage.

Gotcha. Seems like a sturdy and good looking setup. I might mimick that just for the looks. What was the thickness of the plate again?

Does anyone have pics or could guide me to pics of what the bottom two mounts should look like? I'm lacking a visual on some of the instruction. In my mind it just inserts into the end of the pan where my strap transaxle extensions are. I'd like though to see what's correct and follow that as much as I can.
