DONT run a supertrap!! it will kill the power! If you are going to run a muffler it should be a straight through one (say no to flowmaster!). Turboengines dont respond the same way that a N/A engine does to exhaust. Anything after the turbo needs to be as big and unabstructed as possible, otherwise there will be more turbo lag and down on hp. A ported manifold will also improve throttl responce will allow the boost to come in sooner, and can make same hp on lower boost. As for wiing for the factory BCS (boost control solinoid) its not worth it, ITs easier just to turn the gillis valve down. this will allow the boost to be turned down to 10psi and up to whatever, the BCS allows 11psi and 15 thats it, you really wont see any real hp until you have a 3" exhaust and atleast 18psi. Trust me this makes a huge difference everywhere.

You guys are really getting me jazzed up about running a 2.3. Is it possible to get it set up for less money then a turbo Aircooled VW?

does the Oil pan hang below the Trans too far?
does anyone got some good pics of a setup?
Does anyone know the distance from the back of the engine to the end of the harmonic balancer? (I would like to know if it will stick out of a Thing)

Thanks for any info!
Later
david

I got the wiring up and going and the motor started without the car wiring except the starter. The wiring is so simple, it is still using the factory ECU.

The pinto flywheel and the 2.3 flywheel use a different bolt pattern. We have to get a flywheel that fits the 2.3 cause the pinto pattern is smaller.

The adapter seems to fit right up but I did have to drill it out to work with the 5/8 in alignment studs. The bolt holes seem pretty strait foward. I will be buying a few new bolts for it.

The car also had some wheel locks that I had to get off for the old owner.
I have never had to take wheel locks off with out the key. I just welded some cheapie sockets onto the wheel locks and the heat made them come off with a 3/8 rachet with extension. Dont forget to wear gloves Twisted Evil

I picked mine up on craigslist for $100. Tore the tins off and It's brand spankin new inside. The seller said it had less than 10k on it and now I believe him. Also threw in the engine stand, ecu, harness, fan and some other stuff. There really are good deals out there.

Ohh noo, not another convert.... Who was it that did that non-delivery of your motor, so we can avoid them.

Sorry to hear about a bad experience. Sad

SERRANO'S No! No! No! No!!!! would not answer any of my questions after the purchase(email) he told me 4weeks, i showed him the link on thesamba about him and he assured me it would be 4weeks. well 8 weeks later and still not answering my email, (get ready) my wife lost it and called him, he said he would look into it. he never came back to the phone, she got the charges put back on the card from some lady that worked there... Evil or Very Mad mama was pissed... it wouldn't of been so back if he would just respond back. so if you ever decide to get a engine built by him, dont believe his time line...stinkin liar..

Unfortunatly for him, this is not the first time I heard bad stuff about their follow up. It is a shame you guys had to get wound up Sad Before going to the dark side, have you talked to Fish about an engine? You were looking for a 2 litre weren't you?.....and you mised 1/2 the dune season since you sold your 1600 already huh? No! No! No! No!!!!
